Sue Robb (BSiL Champion and former Reception teacher and primary head), Sir Kevan Collins (Delivery Adviser and former Reception teacher), Tim Coulson (Director General, Regions Group and former primary Trust CEO) will be joined by Headteachers and Reception teachers for a panel discussion exploring how to prepare for high-quality Reception pedagogy and practice for September 2026.

Drawing on the panel’s experience as Reception teachers, primary heads and senior system leaders, they will share insights on why getting Reception right is so critical, including how leaders can make effective use of Good Level of Development (GLD) reports to inform practice and strengthen provision.

The session will also feature contributions from practitioners and leaders, focusing on the unique pedagogy of Reception, covering effective learning environments, classroom organisation, assessment, and teaching approaches. The session will conclude with reflections on what makes Reception such a vital and distinctive stage, and how to ensure every child is set up for success from the very start.

MenB Vaccine is available for a limited time from late July 2026.  Eligibility - all current year 13 students and anyone aged under 25 starting university of moving into further education halls of residence for the first time this autumn.

Dear Headteacher,

Shrewsbury Town Council is pleased to announce that the nationally recognised Knife Angel sculpture will be visiting Shrewsbury from Wednesday 17 June until Friday 31 July, located in The Square.

Created from more than 100,000 seized knives and blades collected by police forces across the UK, the Knife Angel is a powerful national monument against violence and aggression. Designed by sculptor Alfie Bradley at the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry, the sculpture aims to raise awareness of the devastating impact of knife crime, encourage positive conversations, and inspire communities to work together to create safer futures for young people.

During its stay in Shrewsbury, schools are warmly encouraged to visit the sculpture and use the opportunity to support age-appropriate discussions around:

· personal safety and making positive choices

· the impact of violence on individuals, families and communities

· respect, kindness and community responsibility

· youth wellbeing and emotional resilience

The Knife Angel provides an opportunity for reflection, education and engagement, and we hope schools will consider incorporating the visit into PSHE, citizenship, safeguarding or pastoral activities where appropriate.

Shrewsbury Town Council is currently working with local partners and organisations to develop a programme of accompanying activities and educational opportunities during the sculpture’s stay.
