The Somerset Local Plan scoping consultation closed at 11.59pm on 9 August 2026.
Thank you to everyone who took part. We received feedback from residents, businesses, community groups, parish and town councils, statutory consultees and other stakeholders.
The consultation asked for views on the scope of the new Local Plan, how we engage communities during plan preparation, our draft vision and outcomes for Somerset, and a range of emerging evidence and spatial options.

Neighbourhood planning allows local communities to prepare planning policies that help shape development in their area.
This can be done through a Neighbourhood Development Plan, often referred to as a Neighbourhood Plan, a Neighbourhood Development Order, or a Community Right to Build Order.

Westbury-sub-Mendip Parish Council has submitted its Neighbourhood Plan.
The Parish Council has already consulted widely on the plan with residents, businesses and a range of interest groups.
The Neighbourhood Plan is currently out for consultation until Friday, 28 August 2026. Representations received outside this period may not be accepted.
Following the consultation, it will be independently examined for compliance with legislation and then subject to a referendum.

The North Curry Neighbourhood Plan has progressed to independent examination, the next stage in the neighbourhood planning process.
Neighbourhood plans are prepared by local communities and can set out a vision, aims and planning policies to guide future development, regeneration and conservation in an area.
The examination is carried out by a qualified, independent planning professional. It checks whether the correct legal processes have been followed and whether the plan meets the required legal tests.
