Publication of Westbury-sub-Mendip Neighbourhood Plan

Westbury-sub-Mendip Parish Council has submitted its Neighbourhood Plan.

The Parish Council has already consulted widely on the plan with residents, businesses and a range of interest groups.

The Neighbourhood Plan is currently out for consultation until Friday, 28 August 2026. Representations received outside this period may not be accepted.

Following the consultation, it will be independently examined for compliance with legislation and then subject to a referendum.

The Somerset Local Plan sets out the overall development strategy for the area, including housing numbers and broad locations. The Westbury-sub-Mendip Neighbourhood Plan looks in more detail at the parish.

It contains local objectives and policies covering:

• the character and heritage of the area,
• housing needs,
• highway and pedestrian safety,
• car parking,
• landscape and key views,
• community facilities and the rural economy.

Once finalised, the Neighbourhood Plan will be used to help determine planning applications and decisions about the future use of land. The plan was prepared by the Westbury-sub-Mendip Neighbourhood Plan Group and is now being publicised before it goes to public examination.

People are invited to share their views on the Neighbourhood Plan and its proposals.

The submitted documents are available on our Westbury Sub Mendip page or can be viewed digitally at the Council Service Point in Wells Town Hall.

Opening hours: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 9.30am to 2pm on Saturday.

People making representations can also ask to be kept informed of the final decision on the plan.
