Tuesday 19 January 2021
As you may be aware from the update sent from Rotherham Council earlier this evening the Met Office has issued Amber and Yellow alerts for heavy rain from today – Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st January 2021.
In readiness for potential flooding in Rotherham, the Council is already taking steps to protect high-risk residential areas. Council officers are actively monitoring water levels and have plans in place should the situation develop further.
The Council has proactively delivered 1,000 sandbags to residential properties in a number of areas, including Parkgate, that were affected by flooding in November 2019. The provision of sandbags is prioritised for properties are in danger of flooding. Requests for sandbags should be made using the Council’s website.
Teams will be working through the night to respond to reports of flooding. Our advice remains for residents to be prepared for possible flooding. The Council has a dedicated flood information and advice page here. Advice on steps you can take to prepare for flooding can be also be found on the Environment Agency website
The latest information around flood alerts is also on the Environment Agency website – this is updated frequently as conditions develop, so please check back regularly.
You can also stay up to date via the Council’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
