 National lockdown now in force
Following the Prime Minister's announcement on Monday 4 January, a new national lockdown is now in force, with people advised to stay at home as much as possible.
You must not leave, or be outside your home unless it is necessary, which includes:
- shopping for basic items.
- going to work or volunteering, if you cannot reasonably do so from home.
- exercising with your household, support bubble or one other person (limited to once per day and only in your local area).
- meeting your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one.
- seeking medical assistance or avoiding injury, illness or risk of harm (including domestic abuse).
See the government website for detailed guidance and visit the coronavirus pages on the Rotherham Council website for information about changes to council services and how to get further support if you or someone you know needs it.

Libraries in lockdown
Brinsworth has a wonderful new library, but unfortunately, due to current Covid restrictions, it is unable to offer public access. We are however offering an Order and Collect Service here and across our sites.
Our Order and Collect Service will be extended to offer our full reservations service. If you would like more information on how to use this service you can call Brinsworth Library on 01709 373028
With a Rotherham Library membership, you can borrow e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and have access to e-newspapers all for free. If you do not have a Library membership you can join online at https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/libraries where you can access all our online resources. You can also follow up-to date news on our Rotherham Libraries Facebook page.

How to help keep your home and vehicles safe
Car technology is always evolving, but while our cars are becoming more capable, so are the thieves who are targeting them. Criminals have upped their game, developing sophisticated techniques such as signal jamming, signal relaying and key programming which are all aimed at bypassing vehicle anti-theft devices.
Did you know that you can use a car key signal blocker case or sleeve, which would cost less than £10, or an aluminium tin at home to prevent criminals from copying your signal from your key fob?
The Rotherham South Neighbourhood Policing team offer the following advice you for when you leave your property:
- Lock your doors and windows every time you leave the house, even when you’re out in the garden
- Hide all keys, including car keys out of sight and away from your letterbox.
- Install a visual burglar alarm
- Invest in good outside lighting
- Leave radios or lights in your house on a timer to make the property appear occupied
- Secure bikes by locking them to an immoveable object inside a locked shed or garage
- Keep ladders and tools stored away (thieves could use these to try and break-in)
- Ensure all fencing is in good condition
- Remove valuables from view
For further burglary prevention advice, please speak to your local neighbourhood policing team on 01709 83266.

Be Cancer Safe
Be Cancer SAFE is part of the Social Movement in Health initiative, commissioned by the Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group and based at Voluntary Action Rotherham. You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
Cervical Cancer Prevention Week - 18 to 24 January
Cervical cancer mainly affects sexually active women aged between 30 and 45.The best way to protect yourself is by attending Cervical Screening when invited. Almost all cases of cervical cancer are caused by HPV, a very common virus that can be passed through any type of sexual contact with a man or a woman.
Abnormal bleeding does not mean you have cervical cancer, but you should see a GP as soon as possible to get it checked out. It is important to know the signs and symptoms and to contact your GP if you notice a change.
For further information and support Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust website
