The Children's Bookshow |
|
 |
The Children's Bookshow is bringing award-winning author and illustrator Yasmeen Ismail to the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth on Wednesday 5 November 2025 at 11am. The show is suitable for years 1 and 2.
Yasmeen will draw live on stage, read from her much-loved books, share the secrets behind her creative process and offer her top tips for budding writers and illustrators - a perfect event to spark creativity and inspire young imaginations!
Tickets are £7 per child and adult and every child that attends the performance gets a free copy of Yasmin's book Time for Bed Fred! to take home and keep.
There are also four free in-school workshops with Yasmeen Ismail (worth £500) available to schools that bring over 30 children to the theatre show. Yasmeen will come into your school and work creatively with a class of 30 children. Children really love having an author and illustrator visit their school, especially when they've already seen them on stage at the theatre - it's a really great opportunity to create a buzz about reading, writing and books! Please register your interest for a workshop at the time of booking theatre seats.
School climate action plans - opportunities for schools for support |
|
 |
All schools were asked to deliver climate action plans by March 2025. Climate action plans include climate adaptation and the natural environment. Portsmouth City Council's Green and Healthy City Team can help you.
Problems with puddles?
The Department for Education will shortly be opening a funding application window under SUDS (sustainable drainage systems) in schools. This funds the delivery of measures in schoolgrounds such as raingardens, trees and bioswales that bring nature into schools, reduce surface water flooding and deliver cooling into the playground too. PCC 's Green and Healthy City Team are looking to submit an application following a successful grant award last year which will see measures for four schools in Portsmouth being implemented.
If your school experiences large puddles in the playground or close to school buildings, please contact Felicity.Harris@portsmouthcc.gov.uk by Sunday 6 July 2025.
Managing heat in schools
A free webinar and workshop with those working nationally on evidence and policy is being held on Thursday 10 July 2025, 2pm - 4pm. This is a chance to understand how heatwaves and increasing temperatures may affect schools in Portsmouth and shape future work - with speakers from the Met Office, University of York, Portsmouth schools and PCC.
To find out more, please register via Eventbrite.
Have your say on the future of your council |
|
 |
Portsmouth residents are asked to take a short survey to say if the city should be part of the Government's plans for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).
LGR would see existing councils replaced by bigger ones, covering wider areas. It would mean Portsmouth City Council no longer exists as it currently does and local services delivered in a different way.
The City Council's survey runs until Sunday 29 June 2025 (midnight) and as many local views as possible are wanted. The survey asks if Portsmouth should be part of LGR, and if it is forced by Government to be included, which councils Portsmouth should merge with.
