Fairtrade schools resources |
|
|
Did you know that Portsmouth has been a Fairtrade City since 2004? That’s because a small group of people were fired up by the idea that our shopping choices could make a real difference to the producers who grow or make the products we buy and they persuaded lots of shops, cafes etc to sell the products and the city council to support it.
From small beginnings, there are now 6,000+ products which carry the Fairtrade Mark. It is a guarantee of better prices for the producers plus money for their communities and agreed standards on things like child labour, pesticides, and women’s rights.
Climate change means that life has got much harder for many producers, and they need help to plant different crops and move to climate-smart agriculture. So, the Fairtrade movement is even more important.
Visit the Fairtrade website to find out more and access free teaching resources, including a range of lesson plans, assembly plans, films, activities and games.
