On Tuesday 22 August, families from all around Penrith turned out for a fun filled morning and afternoon at Thacka Beck Field for the Penrith Play Day!
Over 80 people attended the day with children and young people enjoying building dens, making and creating, circus fun, basic woodworking and playing in Stomping Ground's mud kitchen! The event was serenaded by the fantastic Blue Jam who helped add to the atmosphere of the day!
Penrith Town Council commissioned Stomping Ground to deliver the Penrith Play Day at Thacka Beck Field, ensuring that every child / young person was able to attend the event free of charge.
Thacka Beck path repaired
This week the path at Thacka Beck Field has been restored back to its best following parts of the path having its top layer of dusting washed away by recent heavy downpours and overflow from Thacka Beck itself.
The washing away of the top layer of dusting left the bottom layer of larger stones exposed, making it more difficult to walk on and to push prams and trolleys.
On Wednesday (23 August) a new layer of dusting was added, making the path much easier to walk on yet again. The new top layer of dusting will soften in time to match the colouration of the existing path.
Since its creation in November 2022, the path has been put to great use by residents and visitors alike with an increase of people using the field to get into town, to walk their dogs or to incorporate as part of their daily walking / running routes through the town.

A bench with a view!
Following a request from the member of the public, Penrith Town Council agreed to move a bench up on Beacon Edge.
The bench was formerly situated looking onto a small group of trees, blocking the views of the Lake District fells.
The bench has since been moved, and will allow passer-by's to sit down and enjoy the fantastic views!
Top Left: Relocated bench. Top Right: View from previous location. Bottom: View from new location.

Penrith Town Council, working with Plug & Play, EVAN and the Penrith Arts & Culture group, have funded and arranged for bands / artists to play around Penrith on every Saturday across the Summer.
Sounds Around Town showcases the enormous wealth of local talent we have in Penrith (and the surrounding area) and aims to encourage more visitors into the town centre, and increase the ‘dwell time’ of those visitors by giving them bands / artists worth sticking around for!
As the name suggests, bands / artists play in different areas to encourage footfall throughout the town centre benefitting more local businesses and increasing the vibrancy of the whole town.
All bands / artists play around 2pm and finish on or before 4pm.
Summer is now drawing to a close, and so to is our Sounds Around Town project, with just one more artist set to play next Saturday.
So, to round off we have Streetbeats and Bluejam Folk at the Rotary Garden on Saturday 2 September.
Check them out if you're in and around the town centre next Saturday!
