International innovator in marine autonomy and defence contractor, M Subs, which operates in both Texas, USA and Plymouth, has signed a lease agreement to expand business operations into the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport.
Investing in a new build facility within the Freeport’s South Yard site at Devonport will enable M Subs to expand their business with new job creation and to better fulfil their obligations in their current stable of international defence market contracts including Project CETUS by being close to the water – the business has satisfied the stringent displacement and gateway policy which applies to all businesses considering operating within the Freeport.
The British Business Bank has now launched the £200 million South West Investment Fund (SWIF).

As part of a bigger £1.6 billion investment commitment to UK businesses, this new funding for the South West is part of a wider goal to drive sustainable economic growth in the region.

Plymouth Science Park’s Researcher in Residence, Dr Oli Tills, is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow working as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth.
Oli’s work with the University of Plymouth, based at the Science Park, specialises in the early development of aquatic organisms and their environment, conducting groundbreaking research that advances our understanding of marine biology.
Work is set to start in September 2023 on a major £3m repair and maintenance project for Plymouth’s lock gates which form a key part of the city’s coastal defences, protecting hundreds of homes and businesses from flooding, and providing access to the marina and fish quays in the Sutton Harbour and Barbican area of the city.
Following detailed consultation with harbour users, programming of the project has been significantly revised and the scheme will now be carried out in two phases, with the aim of minimising, wherever possible, disruption to the harbour’s fishing and leisure fleets.
Led by Plymouth City Council, Plymouth’s Health and Care Skills Partnership is seeking support from local businesses to be part of a new rewards package that would be exclusively available to Plymouth’s front-line carers.
This is part of a new plan to help tackle the challenges facing recruitment and retention in domiciliary care. To give some context, the national Blue Light Card and NHS discounts are available for Healthcare workers, but from research with local domiciliary care providers this can exclude the vital domiciliary care workforce who are caring 24/7 for our most vulnerable in the city.
With the increases in cost of living and challenges for staff retention, development of a new localised rewards package aims to thank the crucial front-line carer workforce, save them money and ensure they feel better valued.
If your business could offer discounts or benefits as part of this new rewards package, please contact Jack Davies, Health and Care Coordinator by emailing HealthandCareSkills@plymouth.gov.uk
