Altrad acquisition of Doosan Babcock complete
Altrad reached financial close on their agreement to acquire Doosan Babcock on Sunday 25 September 2022.
The transaction marks an exciting milestone in the company’s ongoing development and positions the business with a new dynamic owner, who aspires to grow and develop the business.
To reflect the new ownership structure, the business will now be renamed Altrad Babcock Limited, thereby preserving the rich heritage of the Babcock brand, which is synonymous with delivering engineering excellence for our clients, across a broad international footprint.
Altrad Babcock Ltd will become an important part of PPP’s identity and our brand and visual assets will be transitioning in the future to reflect this.
Head of PPP Duncan Elliott said:
"Our Doosan Babcock colleagues will continue to be a valued part of the PPP team and we encourage you to support them in the coming months, as they prepare for a smooth and successful transition of their business. Altrad and Doosan Babcock share a long-standing relationship and have a successful history of collaborating to achieve great outcomes. We look forward to the role we will play in their future.
"PPP is entering an exciting phase in our journey and in our pursuit to become a leader within UK infrastructure delivery. We look forward to benefiting from the rich experience, expertise and talent within Altrad, to help achieve Sellafield Ltd’s purpose to create a clean and safe environment for future generations."

National Inclusion Week recap and resources
Last week PPP marked National Inclusion Week, a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces.
Over 300 people attended a series of webinars across the week which covered a range of important topics. Our Head of PPP Duncan Elliott opened the first of the week’s events alongside Solat Chaudhry, Founder and Chief Executive of the National Centre for Diversity, to talk about our journey with the NCD.
Additional events focused on our PPP People Forum, neurodiversity in the workplace, Sellafield's employee networks and a final session to end the week about how we must remain committed to inclusion every day.
The client team's cultural development manager Becky Ballantyne said:
"I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the activities in support of National Inclusion Week. Inclusion is a fundamental component of everything we do, everyone has the right to feel valued and respected. We hope that by raising awareness through the sessions we've been able to provide different perspectives around these topics."
How to get involved
PPP's People Forum is still looking for new members, if you're interested in finding out more, please contact Bridget Ward or Claire Gribben.
People managers who are keen to develop their knowledge of the FREDIE principles (Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement) should also sign up to PPP Manager Training sessions.

The B111 hall was filled with a constant stream of employees having safety conversations. Teams from across the workforce and supply chain shared their safety expertise, innovation and learning.
The Safety Hub Team celebrated best practice, from within and outside our projects and wider industry, exemplary safety, and shared good practices we can all benefit from, to ensure a safer Sellafield.
(L-R) PPP Delivery Director Steve Harnwell, Sellafield Ltd's Projects Director Andy Sharples and PPP Health and Safety Manager Mark Lowe.
 Safety Hub Monthly Meeting

Mike shares crane LfE across major projects
Mike Oswin joined PPP earlier this year as Construction Manager for lifting on the SRP project, from his previous role as Site Manager for Mammoet.
Mike has over 10 years experience across various decommissioning and construction projects on the Sellafield site, including the Windscale Pile Chimney and other legacy facilities.
Having had oversight of SRP’s crane use, Mike is now spending three days a week bringing that learning from experience to the crane study for PPP's Box Encapsulation Plant Product Store 2 (BEPPS2) project.
Mike is collaborating with the BEPPS2 team to help manage the coordination of cranes, advise on resource management and is bringing mechanical expertise to ensure lessons from SRP are embedded successfully.
This approach would not have been possible under past project delivery approaches at Sellafield.

RAP and partners attend HotLab 2022
Last week, RAP’s Technical Lead (Measurement & Analysis) Jon Hawkett attended the Hot Lab Conference in Manchester alongside members of the team from delivery partners Orano and Aquila. Jon’s presentation opened the conference and three posters were presented through the week showcasing the team’s collaborative approach; enabled by our PPP framework.
PPP's Replacement Analytical Project (RAP), Aquila, Orano and NIS are using the collaborative model offered by the PPP framework to deliver the new measurement and analysis capability at the UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory.
The experts from each have formed a virtual team as opposed to a traditional client and contractor relationship which is underpinned by the PPP’s aligned incentive fund.
This means they can deliver the design, prototyping and testing of instruments in a shorter time period aligning with project timescales involving multiple engineering disciplines, analytical experts and operators to input at every stage of the design. With the aim of eliminating any risks and minimising rework. Working this way will ensure the final complex instruments being deployed into the nuclear environment are fully optimised and that RAP delivers a world first national capability.
