Welcome to this special edition of the Age Friendly Nottingham (AFN) Bulletin which gives details of some of the FREE events and activities taking place across Nottingham to mark International Older People's Day on 1 October 2016.

Of course there is much more being offered by different partners across the city and we would love to hear about your events.

Age Friendly Nottingham Champion

In the Council House on Old Market Square from 11.00 am to 1.30 pm. 

As AFN celebrates the diversity of our older citizens on International Older People’s Day we will share recipes and stories about our favourite foods.

Not only will we learn more about foods from different cultures but we will be able to sample different tastes from around the world.  There will also be an opportunity to play games and activities that you may not have played for quite a while.

Older citizens are invited to a free coffee morning to celebrate the launch of Take a Seat in Nottingham City Centre on Saturday 1 October from 10.30 am to 12.00 pm at the Nottingham Building Society on Upper Parliament Street. 

The AFN Take a Seat initiative is now being supported by over 160 premises across the city.  We are very excited about our launch in the city centre.  If you are a business or community organisation that is willing to offer a seat to an older person who needs to catch their breath for a few minutes please email clare.routledge@nottinghamcity.gov.uk.

Oak Field School and Sports College - 28, 29 and 30 September

The café at Oak Field School and Sports College on Wigman Road in Bilborough has signed up to Take a Seat and is celebrating Older People’s Day 2016 by offering older citizens a free hot drink if they drop in on 28, 29 or 30 September.

Put on your dancing shoes on 1 October 2016 from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm in the Spiegel Tent on the Old Market Square in Nottingham City Centre.  There will be a wide range of dancers demonstrating:

• Belly Dancing
• Brazilian Samba
• Flamenco
• Tap
• International Fold Dancing

There will be an opportunity for the audience to join in some of the dances.  This event is free but places are limited.

Come along to our free library clubs held monthly at Basford, Clifton and Sherwood Libraries. Experience a range of entertaining talks and activities and meet up with new or old friends over a hot drink.

Everyone is welcome and coming up in the next few months we have talks about the history of chocolate and Cadbury’s, William Booth and Nottingham townhouses.
