Age UK Manchester

Day centre volunteers

Age UK's Day Centres are looking for volunteers to assist Support Workers, who provide Day Care for older ladies and gentlemen with Dementia.

Information and advice volunteers

Age UK are currently looking for volunteers to work within their Advice Team, helping older people to overcome a range of problems, particularly relating to welfare benefit entitlements.

Volunteer counsellors

Age UK's Counselling Service is looking for volunteer counsellors, either fully qualified or those currently training to be a counsellor.

Shop volunteers (no minimum commitment)

Age UK are looking for volunteers at their Manchester shops - if that's you and you have spare time, then apply to become a shop volunteer.

Translator Volunteers

Age UK is seeking volunteers to help older people at their Brunswick Day Centre with communicating with staff and their peers. Service users sometimes lose the capacity to speak English and revert to their native tongue, which creates a communication barrier. Volunteers help to break this barrier down. Age UK are particularly looking for speakers of Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and Patois.

Ageing Well Volunteers

Age UK are looking for volunteers who want to help at Ageing Well groups to assist with running the group, preparing for activities, and being a friendly face. Groups range from craft groups to exercise groups to Men in Sheds. Please note that there is a minimum commitment of three months.

It's never too late to start volunteering

Volunteering is when someone spends time doing something to benefit others. It can include shopping for someone, being a mentor, assisting someone with a job search, giving reading lessons, helping at a food bank, befriending – and much more. Anyone can volunteer; you can do as much or as little as you like, to fit around your life. It may be a regular activity, a one-off, or anything in between. Volunteering is for people of all ages, abilities, experiences and backgrounds. You don’t need any skills or qualifications to begin volunteering. Your past experiences may be extremely useful when volunteering.

How can I get involved?

In Manchester there are many ways you can find an opportunity that suits you.

Volunteer Centre Manchester
The Volunteer Centre has a site where you can find details of local volunteering opportunities, advice on volunteering, help with finding the right volunteer role, and more.

MCRVIP
MCRVIP is a volunteering site managed by Manchester City Council. This is where you can find opportunities to volunteer with Council teams such as Libraries, MCRactive and Manchester Art Galleries.

Waste Operative

Mitie are looking for a Waste Operative to join the Waste and Cleaning team to undertake the collection, movement, sorting, processing and dispatch of waste and other materials including the compaction of waste and cardboard. They are looking for someone who can stay compliant to Health and Safety regulations, monitor the performance of equipment, provide support to the On-Site Waste Coordinator to complete site objective and make sure to follow PPE guidance.

They are looking for a candidate who has experience in Health & Safety training, an understanding of waste management and environmental legislation, have previous experience in the use of static balers and compactors and also be capable of carrying out strenuous tasks.

Salary: £13.45 per hour

Summer Jobs Programme

Sportainment is offering a 6‑week paid summer job opportunity for at‑risk young people aged 16–20 across Greater Manchester. Participants will work 25 hours per week at £12.71 per hour and receive support from SEN, wellbeing and safeguarding staff throughout the programme.

Young people are eligible if they meet one or more criteria such as having experience with care, social services, exclusions, youth justice contact or being at risk of exploitation or serious violence.

Referral options:
Partners can refer eligible young people, or individuals can contact Sportainment directly. Eligibility will be confirmed, and support is available for those who do not meet the criteria.
