Manchester Childcare Survey 2025

Manchester City Council wants to know your views on childcare in Manchester. Complete these two surveys to help us to understand and review the childcare in our city. This will help up us to identify childcare demand, gaps and solutions.

These are for parents of children aged 0-5 years old and 5 plus years old (they can be be both completed).

Childcare Choices: Get the help that fits your family, so you can juggle work and life

Thousands of families could be saving money on their childcare costs. But some simply don’t know what support they might be eligible for.

The Childcare Choices website brings together all the existing childcare offers in one place, so parents can get the help that fits their family. This could be through Tax-Free Childcare, 30 Hours Childcare, or Universal Credit Childcare. Some families might be eligible to use more than one childcare scheme together and get the most out of it.

And from next year even more help is on the way:

• From September 2024, the 15 hours childcare offer was expanded to eligible working parents in England with children between 9 and 23 months old.
• From September 2025, eligible working parents in England with children between 9 months up to school age will have access to 30 hours childcare.

Support is also expanding for primary-school aged children – from September 2024, parents are expected to see an expansion in the availability of childcare in their local area before and after school, between 8am and 6pm, also known as ‘wraparound care’.

Manchester Active

Grant funding for children and young people’s cycling activity

As part of the Manchester European Capital of Cycling, Manchester Active is pleased to announce the Manchester Active small grant programme is now live!

Manchester Active is offering small grants of up to £500 to community groups to engage children and young people between the ages of 6 to 16 years in cycling, including putting on events and activities.

Please note the funding is for cycling delivery within the Manchester City Council area.

Smartworks | Supporting Women into Work 

Smart Works is UK charity that exists to empower all women who need help getting into work.

They support unemployed women aged 16+ into work by providing free, high-quality clothing and personalised 1-1 coaching services.

They work across all Boroughs of Greater Manchester, delivering appointments in the Centres in Stockport and Manchester, and they also offer virtual appointments.

To arrange an appointment, Smart Works work on a referral basis. An organisation supporting you to find work can get in touch with the Smart Works team to make a referral, eg., Job Centres, Ingeus, other employment services you may be working with or other support services you may be accessing. You can also reach out to your local library to make a referral.

This free project for 8 to 16 year olds is back open after the summer holidays and waiting to help your child succeed.

Northmoor will be providing support with children’s homework, namely Maths, English and other subjects.

**All new and returning students are required to register/ re-register with their parent/legal guardian***

The session time has now changed to 3.30pm to 6.30pm but still a max stay of 1 hour.
