🆕Firstbreak Programme: The Bay

Taster event: 26 July from 5pm to 7pm on Zoom

ScreenSkills’ First Break programme has opportunities to get paid work experience on the fifth series of The Bay. Individuals will get careers advice, a training session explaining what to expect and the chance to apply for a paid placement on the production. Other departments that  one could work in are make-up, costume, art, production, assistant directing, camera, sound or lighting. his will be an online event

Manchester Local Offer

July Youth Club

Every Wednesday, 4.30pm to 6.30pm

Community Kitchen chef Roger is trying out a new youth club! It’s for young people aged 11 to 19 with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) living in the Manchester City Council area and will involve cooking and eating each session, as well as arts and crafts, and sports.

The free club is every Wednesday in July, starting on the 5 July, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, at Procter Learning Centre, Hulme Street, Off Jackson Crescent M15 5EF.

The Community Kitchen

The Community Kitchen returns for summer! There are free sessions from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday 26 July, Monday 31 July, Wednesday 2 August, Monday 7 August and Wednesday 9 August.

They’re for young people with SEND and/or social emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) to come with their families and cook and eat together, learning about healthy food and cooking skills and BBQ techniques. All food and tuition provided. 

The sessions are for SEND families living in the Manchester City Council area and are at Procter Learning Centre, Hulme Street, Off Jackson Crescent M15 5EF. There will also be chance during the breaks for families to ride bikes provided by Manccycles, learning cycling and safety skills. Please arrive on time. Parking available.

FLIP, Skateboarding and Music-Making

FLIP are free weekly sessions at Projekts skatepark near Piccadilly Station, running until 18 July. It’s now every Wednesday in term-time 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

It's a chance for young people with SEND aged 8 to 25 in the Manchester City Council area to enjoy an hour of skateboard coaching, followed by an hour of music-making with Billy and Andy who offer accessible music workshops. Siblings can join in too. Families are welcome to hang out in the cafe during the sessions or watch the skateboarders from the viewing balcony.

Skills Bootcamps in Digital Marketing

Start dates: 4 September and 18 September

We are Digital are now accepting applications for their Digital Marketing course which runs for 10 to 12 weeks. Learners can choose to enrol onto their morning, afternoon or evening sessions. This is for Individuals who are unemployed, self-employed, or working part-time and are looking to  upskill. For individuals interested in the GMCA Skills Bootcamps, eligibility includes those turning 19 on or before 31 August 2023 and should have the right to work in the UK.

Cariocca Enterprises

The imPACT Programme

Cariocca Enterprises is a Manchester based social enterprise that provides workspace and supports entrepreneurialism in Manchester’s inner-city communities. They are launching The imPACT Programme, an employment training and internship initiative for young people aged 17 to 29. It will give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to learn key employment skills and gain valuable work experience especially in the sports, engineering, technology, finance, and health sectors.

Catch22

The Digital Edge Programme

2 days a week for 4 weeks and is done completely remotely using Microsoft Teams.

The programme is funded by Microsoft and aims to help people between 18 and 45 into the Tech industry. After completing the programme you will then have access to
1 2 1 career coaching and in work support once they find employment.

Over the 4 week programme you will get vital employability skills training, insight into the digital and technology sector whilst doing practical activities and gain confidence in applying for digital apprenticeships or entry level IT roles, with the view of launching their career.

You should be:

• Interested in a digital and tech industry
• 18 to 45 years old
• Access to laptop/computer and headphones
• Based in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London
• Not in Education or Employment
• Have the right to work within the UK
• Have a basic level of IT Skills

The programme covers the different type of tech roles available in the industry, the different tech jargon terms, how to tailor a cover letter and CV to these specific positions and they even do group projects. Alongside their facilitators they do have guest speakers from Tech Apprenticeships providers, and Microsoft staff also speak to the group about the tech industry.

DISC (Digital Inc. Specialist College)
They have both full and part time opportunities for 6 to 12 months agency work experience in their Manchester city centre workspace. DISC will be opening its doors to support young people with a flair for digital and creative technology to prepare for adulthood and employment. Over the course of their time, the groups will develop their digital and creative work-based skills, improve their confidence and employability prospects and be supported into an apprenticeship, employment, self-employment or other positive destinations.

Manchester Jewish Museum 

Become a social media volunteer

Are you a content creator? Do you make videos on TikTok or manage an Instagram profile? Would you like to help share hidden stories from the museum’s archive with the world? 

They are looking for two volunteers to help support their marketing and communications manager in creating engaging content for the museum’s social media channels. 

They are looking for young 18 to 25 year olds and creative people, who use social media on a daily basis, understand trends on different platforms and can support them with video creation for Instagram and TikTok. This is an opportunity for students and people starting their career in creative industries, who would like to develop their digital content creation skills and build their portfolio.

Volunteers will be given access to a laptop and editing programmes like Adobe Premiere Pro. Don’t be put off if you don’t have experience working in museums. They would be interested in volunteers that could offer regular support (commit to a minimum of 4 hours, fortnightly).

NatWest CareerSense is offers two workshops that will help your students explore different career pathways, and help them build upon their transferable skills.

CareerSense Exploration Workshop
The CareerSense Exploration Workshop is a free learning resource focused on employability skills and building students’ career confidence, designed for students in Year 9/S3 and upwards.

CareerSense Dream Bigger
The CareerSense Dream Bigger workshop has been designed to get students to ‘Dream Bigger’ by developing their skills and resilience, helping them to level up their transferable skills for the future world of work, designed for young people aged 16-18.

Find Your Potential
In addition to the Exploration Workshop and CareerSense Dream Bigger Workshop, NatWest CareerSense also offers a tool called ‘Find Your Potential’. This online tool will help you better understand your skills and motivations through a series of easy questions. On completion of the tool, you’ll get a report that includes some example job types in their sector too. The Find Your Potential tool can be found on the homepage of mycareersense.com where you’ll also find other learning resources.

Digital Youth Hub

Are you aged 18 to 25, live in Greater Manchester and want to develop your creative and digital skills?

Then sign up to the Digital Youth Hub today! It offers an initial course of online workshops to equip you with the key skills to help you find employment and gives you access to their ‘Opportunities Hub’, an up-to-date resource listing training and jobs across Greater Manchester.

You will also be able to take part in live workshops, masterclasses and skills development sessions, build your digital CV and have one to one sessions with a talent manager to help you with the next stage of your career.

We Love MCR Charity 

Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund
We Love MCR's Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund is unique. It supports ambitious 15 to 22 year olds experiencing financial disadvantage to achieve their potential by funding vital equipment, training and resources to enable them take their next steps to success in Work, Qualifications or Entrepreneurship, via grants of up to £5,000. 

Basic Criteria for applicants:

• Aged 15 to 22 (or up to 25 with lived experience of homelessness) 

• Need to live in Manchester City Council boundaries (exemptions apply for Manchester's LAC)

• Must have a clear and realistic ambition around employment, education, training or entrepreneurship.  

• Must demonstrate inability to access funds themselves due to personal/family circumstances
