Leighton college at Elfrida Rathbone Camden is accepting referrals and applications for learners aged 16 to 24 who have mild to moderate learning difficulties and disabilities and have an EHC plan.

Birkbeck, University of London’s Access and Engagement Department is hosting an event aimed at adults going to university for the first time and will offer practical advice and guidance with overcoming common challenges and concerns to help residents decide if university is the right option for them.
Whatever their previous experience; whether they have been out of formal education for a long time or have faced challenging circumstances which have made studying difficult in the past; if they have an interest in studying at university, then this event is for them.
Why should they come along?
The event will include:
- an introduction to what is on offer at Birkbeck;
- information on the benefits of university study;
- common concerns and challenges which adult learners can face;
- a short taster lecture from Dr Mohammed Ateek from Birkbeck's Department of Applied Linguistics to give an insight into what university learning is like;
- space for questions.

Can you become a Community Champion? This new and exciting project is being run in Kentish Town, Kilburn, and Regents Park. Get involved to develop health and wellbeing activities for your community and develop your skills as a volunteer.
Community Champions is a 3-year funded project from Public Health Camden and Islington to develop activity which promotes health and well-being. This project is volunteer led, the volunteers (Community Champions) will shape all the work we do and decide how time and money is spent for their own community. Elfrida Rathbone Camden is the host organisation leading the Kentish Town area.

The Spear Programme helps young people facing disadvantage into work or education. Spear help to change what they believe about themselves by equipping them with confidence, motivation and the vital skills they need to succeed in long-term employment.
The Spear Programme is for 16-to-24-year-olds from disadvantaged backgrounds not in education, employment or training (NEET). It starts with a six week coaching programme that helps young people overcome challenging attitudes and behaviours. It also includes practical training such as writing a good CV and mock interview practice. The young people are then supported for a year to help them find a job and succeed in work.
Spear have a strong track record of achieving significant results: over three quarters of those who complete the Spear Programme get into work or further training and are still there a year later.

The Council is working with Hult International Business School and Birkbeck, University of London, to help Camden residents of all ages realise their potential through a range of life-changing scholarship opportunities, with fully-funded courses starting autumn 2021.
Birkbeck, University of London, in Bloomsbury, is offering two scholarship places to Camden residents for any of their undergraduate courses starting in October 2021. The deadline to apply is 25 June 2021.
Meanwhile, Hult International Business School, also in Bloomsbury, is offering Camden residents a fully-funded one-year intensive postgraduate Master of International Business degree – including practical experience with a social enterprise or small / medium-sized enterprise. The course starts in September 2021 and the deadline to apply is 21 May 2021.
In addition, Hult International Business School is offering London residents a fully-funded scholarship for a full-time, 3-4 year Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) degree. The deadline to apply is 15 January 2021.
Helina Tadeese, who started at Birkbeck this month after successfully applying for a Camden Scholarship, said: “I am a middle child of 5 and thanks to Birkbeck and Camden Council I will be the first of my siblings to attend University. 5 years ago had you told me, while being a young new parent I will also go to University - I would've laughed myself to pain and called you crazy. But that's my beautiful reality this year”.

Camden’s Pathways Finder employment project is offering an individualised programme of learning, enterprise skills and employment opportunities to Camden residents, aged 19 to 25, who are at risk of or involved in youth violence.
The programme aims to open up new opportunities and develop aspirations for young people. Participants will be paid the London Living Wage for up to 6 months as all employment opportunities are fully-funded by Camden Council
