 This year's Dementia Action Week (19 - 25 May) is packed with fun and informative activities to raise awareness of dementia and help those with the illness and their carers to relax, including free exercise sessions, walks and more. The full list of events can be found here.
The main event is Living Well with Dementia, co-hosted by the Alzheimer's Society and the Council at Syon House on Tuesday, 20 May. There will be information on the services and support available in Hounslow for anyone affected, including expert talks and interactive workshops.

The Whittington Oral Health Promotion team is hosting a session on how to look after your children’s teeth for National Smile Month. It will be held at Hounslow Library on Wednesday, 28 May, 11am - 12pm.
The session will cover the importance of brushing, making healthy food and drink choices and visiting the dentist. Parents can also get a free toothbrush pack on the day.
There’s no need to book, you can just turn up on the day. For more information, please contact Amanpreet or Kendra from the team.

Hounslow's special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) Local Offer website now has a page on mental health support. It highlights local services and resources, emotional wellbeing support and helpful contacts.
The next Local Offer Live SEND Surgery will be held at Brentford Library, TW8 8DW on Friday, 16 May, 10am - 12pm.

 Anyone in Hounslow aged between 55 and 74 who smokes or used to smoke can get a free lung cancer screening.
It's the best way to detect lung cancer early when it's treatable, even before any symptoms appear. The process is non-intrusive and you will only be sent for a full CT scan if you are deemed to be at higher risk.
 Stay Steady and Active is launching free weekly E-GYM sessions for residents aged 60 and over at the New Chiswick Pool from Friday, 16 May at 11am.
E-GYM provides a gentle, well-balanced training program that improves strength, endurance, muscle growth and the cardiovascular system. Ideally, each participant should be ready to commit to attending a minimum of three consecutive sessions to gain the benefits of the programme.

The NHS North West London Roving Team is holding a health outreach event at the Laxmi Narayan Temple, TW3 4JG on Tuesday, 20 May.
The team will be offering the COVID-19 spring booster vaccine to those who are eligible. This is also a good opportunity to have conversations about any health concerns you may have and get free health checks, including a kidney health check.

 The Council is hosting a free event at Hounslow House on Wednesday, 21 May for residents in the borough who are blind or experiencing sight loss.
Along with Council teams, the fair will include representatives from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Middlesex Association for the Blind, Guide Dogs, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and many more.

BetterPoints is a free app that allows you to earn rewards for being active and improving your health and wellbeing.
Ruth used to be active only one day a week but after having a baby and downloading the app, she is now active six days a week.

The cooking for a healthy microbiome course, offered by Learn Hounslow, aims to help you understand the effect of food on gut health and teach you how to prepare easy, gut-friendly recipes.
This course starts on Tuesday, 3 June. All ingredients and equipment will be provided, you just need to bring a take-away box to take your dishes home.

The Pre and Postnatal Depression Advice and Support Foundation (PANDAS) is a national charity that provides support for parents, carers and networks with their mental health - from conception through to birth and beyond.
There is a range of free support services available, including a bookable call service, support groups, WhatsApp message support and more.

 Hounslow's Health Outreach Team (HOT) will be out offering free blood pressure checks, BMI weight checks, balance checks for residents aged 60 plus, and advice on health concerns, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stop smoking services, mental health services plus much more.
The HOT team will be at the following locations over the next week:
- Wednesday, 14 May – Hounslow Arts Centre, Treaty Centre, Hounslow High Street – 1.30pm to 2.30pm
- Thursday, 15 May – HOT Shop, Treaty Centre, Hounslow High Street – 9am to 5pm
