The NHS booking systems for free flu and Covid-19 vaccines are now open for this winter. Getting your flu and Covid-19 vaccinations is the best way to protect you, your loved ones, and your community against the viruses over the winter months.
That’s why this year, the Council is celebrating people who do their bit to keep us all safe over the winter and dubbing them Hounslow’s Best Defenders.
You can book your appointments for Covid-19 and flu vaccinations on the respective NHS national booking sites.
You can also book an appointment through your GP, by dropping into participating local pharmacies or walk-in centres, or via Hounslow’s Health Outreach Team, who will be out in communities administering vaccines over the next few months.
On Friday, 4 October, Holy Trinity Church on Hounslow High Street will host a bingo session aimed at raising awareness of the three main cancers that affect women - breast, cervical and bowel.
The session, entitled Boobs and Bingo, is aimed specifically at vulnerable women in Hounslow who wish to learn more about cancer prevention in an accessible and inclusive environment.
It will cover all aspects of breast, cervical and bowel care, the signs to look out for, information about screening services, and who you can speak to if you have concerns.

Stoptober is back for 2024 and Healthy Hounslow is encouraging any smokers in Hounslow to quit for the month of October and beyond.

Learn Hounslow runs inclusive, high-quality adult education courses to help adults across the borough realise their full potential and improve their health and wellbeing.
There are three great courses starting next week:
- Pilates for Wellbeing - from Monday, 30 September - 5.30pm to 7pm
- Aerobics for Wellbeing - from Tuesday, 1 October - 5.30pm to 7pm
- Yoga for Wellbeing - from Wednesday, 2 October - 5.30pm to 7pm
All three are 10-session courses and free for people on benefits or on a low income. For anyone else the full cost is £43 per course.

Lampton Leisure will be hosting a free asthma awareness training session to educate and empower individuals with essential knowledge and skills to manage asthma effectively.
It will take place at Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre,TW13 5EG on Thursday, 10 October from 10am to 1pm. Join to learn more about asthma triggers, treatment options, and emergency response techniques, ensuring a safer and healthier community for everyone.
The Council is hosting a sensory event for residents who are visually impaired or deaf to get support with assistive technology on Wednesday, 25 September.
Major brands such as Sky and Microsoft will be on hand to offer digital advice and a BSL interpreter will be available. Drop in anytime between 11am-3pm at Hounslow House.
For World Mental Health Day and Baby Loss Awareness Week, the West London Perinatal Mental Health Service is hosting a public film screening and community engagement event around maternal mental health, in collaboration with Hounslow's Health Outreach Team.
There will be a screening at Hounslow Holy Trinity Church, TW3 1HG on Thursday, 10 October 2024 from 11am to 1pm.
After the screening there will be stimulating panel conversation and a Q&A session open to the public, followed by light refreshments.
Hounslow’s Healthy Workforce offer means you can request a completely free visit from local health experts to meet you and your colleagues in your workplace, do some free health checks, and offer advice on where to turn for more support.
In just one visit, you will get:
- Free 25-minute NHS Health Checks for eligible people aged 25-74 years old - including BMI, blood pressure blood sugar and cholesterol, plus any relevant healthy living advice
- Professional support and advice to help quit smoking including the Swap to stop offer of free vapes for up to 12 weeks via Healthy Hounslow
To book your free health visit, all you have to do is get in touch with Hounslow Council's Healthy Workforce Officer to arrange the date and time.
Brentford FC Community Sports Trust runs several activities for people who are receiving support for their mental health - including football, yoga for women, and fitness classes.
The free sessions are open to adults under the care of the West London NHS Trust mental health integrated network teams (MINT) and forensic services, as well as adults seeking support with their mental health. People wishing to sign up can do so via the QR codes on the attached flyers below.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has opened nominations for election into its Council of Governors. They will close at 5pm on Monday, 30 September. As a foundation trust, governors play an important role in how the organisation is governed.
Governors may be patients at the Trust, carers of someone who has used their services, or involved in patient, public, community or voluntary sector groups in the local boroughs.
The trust is encouraging anyone who would like to make a contribution to how the organisation is governed to apply, and is keen to see nominations from people across the spectrum of all the communities they serve.

Throughout October, Hounslow's Health Outreach Team (HOT) will be out with Jade Pharmacy delivering free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations to the heart of your community, along with the usual health checks and information.
There will be a particular drive to bring vaccinations to Heston West this year. HOT will be at the following locations in Heston West soon:
- Thursday, 3 Oct - Brabazon Shopping Parade, Heston – 10am to 4pm
- Saturday, 5 Oct - Covent Way - 10am to 12pm and Redwood Estate - 2pm to 4pm
- Saturday, 12 Oct - Brabazon Shopping Parade - 10am to 4pm
