Revised EYFS summary for parents

In response to provider feedback, the Early Years Advisory team have created a summary of the EYFS changes. This includes a description of the main changes, what parents/carers may notice has changed and how they can help with their child’s learning at home.

Don’t forget to submit the date, time and a brief description so we can advertise this on the Family Services Directory for you. This information will be listed along with a link directly to your website for parents to find out more about your provision.

Progress check at age 2

The Department for Education (DfE) has published new guidance to provide support for early years practitioners when completing the progress check at age 2.

They have also published a vodcast to explain the new guidance to early years practitioners and a blog that highlights why the progress check is important now, more than ever as we support children to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Early Years Healthy Development Review

The government has led a review into the support available within the first 1,001 days of life from pregnancy to the age of two.

As part of the review the government has set out a programme of work to transform the support available for families and our youngest children with a focus on setting babies up for lifelong emotional and physical wellbeing.

‘The best start for life: a vision for the 1,001 critical days’ starts with the needs of the baby and describes 6 action areas designed to help make things easier for busy parents and carers:

Seamless support for families: a coherent joined up Start for Life offer available to all families
A welcoming hub for families: family hubs as a place for families to access Start for Life services
The information families need when they need it: designing digital, virtual and telephone offers around the needs of the family
An empowered Start for Life workforce: developing a modern skilled workforce to meet the changing needs of families
Continually improving the Start for Life offer: improving data, evaluation, outcomes and proportionate inspection
Leadership for change: ensuring local and national accountability and building the economic case
