New mobile dental service arrives
A new mobile dental service will provide much-needed dental care for those most in need in Gosport.
It will help new and expectant mothers, children, people on low incomes and benefits, and people at risk of homelessness and social exclusion.
Mobile clinics will start delivering services from Lawrence Square this month, with other locations expected to be added.
The free dental service is available across Hampshire and will target areas at highest risk of poor dental health. It is funded by NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight for 18 months in a partnership with dental charity, Dentaid, to alleviate pressure on existing dental services and increase access to care for those facing difficult circumstances.
Eligible patients will be invited to make appointments to see the onboard dentist. The dentist will provide check-ups and oral cancer screening, oral health advice and emergency care including extractions and fillings. All treatment will be free of charge.
Eggcellent Easter family fun and entertainment in the High Street
An Easter Eggstravagansa is coming to Gosport High Street on Saturday 30 March. From 10am - 4pm there will be fun and activities for all ages.
There will be seating where visitors can relax with food and a drink from the licensed bar while enjoying live entertainment and music.
An Easter market with over 40 traders will offer crafts, street food, fresh coffee, extravagant cakes and bakes and more.
Children will be kept entertained with an Easter egg trail, where hidden bunnies are waiting to be uncovered in shop windows along the High Street, leading to a chocolatey surprise.
Gosport Crafters Without Borders will be hosting a family-friendly workshop offering crafting button and jewellery art, Easter bonnet making, friendship bracelets and more, throughout the day in the Imagination Refinery.
The Easter market is the first of a new bespoke monthly market being launched in Gosport High Street, running until at least May. It will take place on the last Saturday of each month, thanks to a partnership between Gosport Borough Council and Nest & Anchor.
Local elections are taking place across the country this May.
Gosport residents can vote for their ward representative on Gosport Borough Council, as well as voting for the next Police and Crime Commissioner of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
You must be registered to vote
The deadline to register to vote is 16 April at 11.59pm. If you've voted in an election since 2014, when registration changed, it's likely you'll be registered, but you can check with the Electoral Services team on 023 9254 5227.
If you have not received confirmation that you're eligible to vote, you can register at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
You'll need valid identification to vote
Since May 2023, the government has made it mandatory for everyone who is voting at a polling station to show photographic identification (ID).
Acceptable forms of ID include:
What if I don't have photo ID?
If you or someone you know doesn't have one of these IDs available, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate to use as your photo ID at the election instead. Read how to apply here.
Postal voters have had their identification verified by their signatures and date of birth so don't need to provide photo ID.
When and where you will vote
Polling day is Thursday 2 May. Shortly, you should receive a poll card through the door with details of which polling station you vote at, or if you are a postal or postal proxy voter, when to expect your postal voting pack.
The borough of Gosport is divided into 14 electoral wards, and each ward has two elected borough councillors, making up the 28 councillors who sit on Gosport Borough Council.
This year, one seat in each of the 14 wards is up for election. Full results will be published on Gosport Borough Council's website after the count, due to take place overnight on 2 May.
Gosport residents will also have the chance to vote in the Police and Crime Commissioner of Hampshire and Isle of Wight election, on the same polling day (2 May) at their polling station. This election is being managed by Southampton City Council.

To help ease the big demand for allotment space in Gosport, the borough council is about to open a new site at Manor Way, Lee-on-the-Solent.
It will have 65 plots, including some designed for people with additional needs or disabilities. The council has been involved throughout, from the purchase of the land, consulting with neighbouring residents and preparing the site for people to use to grow their own food. The council is also providing funding to the Allotment Association to run the on-site Trading Store, which offers members a discount on buying seeds, compost and other horticultural items.
It will be the 11th allotment site in Gosport. Due to the high demand, there is currently an extensive waiting list for allotment space in Lee-on-Solent. Those on the list will be prioritised for these new plots, which are expected to start becoming available from the beginning of April.
