Welcome

Our 7th newsletter follows the last Forum meeting which took place on 2nd October – thank you to those who attended, we hope you found it informative.  You can find out more about what was discussed in the Workshop section below.

As ever, we want to hear from you and the work that you/your organisation is doing to help improve people’s wellbeing in Gloucestershire, as this has an impact on reducing suicides in the county.  If you want to present at a future Forum meeting (the next one is in March and the agenda is full already!) please get in touch at suicideprevention@gloucestershire.gov.uk.  Likewise, if you want to contribute to a future newsletter, please let us know. The Forum meeting and newsletter are great ways to let people in Gloucestershire know what is going on in the county.

  • the equine assisted activities offered by the team at Horses Helping People with Depression and Anxiety (HHPDA)
  • the work done by Gloucestershire Health & Care Trust (formerly 2gether Trust) and Gloucestershire Police to support high risk individuals that frequently attend hospital through the high intensity mentoring project ‘GHIN’
  • how the ‘Glos Talks’ campaign is encouraging everyone to join the movement by talking mental health and fighting the stigma surrounding it
  • the ‘Help to Claim’ service offered by Citizens Advice.

Free online suicide prevention training

Zero Suicide Alliance

Just to remind you that we're promoting the free online suicide prevention training put together by the Zero Suicide Alliance.

The training, which is accessible to all, takes about 20 minutes to completed and shows you the signs to look out for if someone is struggling, how to talk to them about this, and how to keep them safe.

You can access the training here - www.bit.ly/zsa-training.

For a limited time, as a way to encourage as many people as possible to do the training, we're offering a free drink and snack from participating community cafes in the county, upon presentation of either a photo or print off of the completion page.  For more information, including the list of all cafes participating in this promotion, please visit here - http://bit.ly/zsa-ts-and-cs

We've had some media coverage on this (see here) and in MP Richard Graham's recent e-newsletter, but please spread the word!

Trans and non-binary swimming group

Trans* Gloucester and GL1 leisure centre will be running a test run for a swimming group for trans and non binary people and families.

We need everyone's support to help this flourish and be a regular monthly event. The pool is enclosed with no public viewing and changing cubicles are available.

Two life guards will be present as it is a family event and the staff are aware that some individuals may choose to wear additional clothing such as binders and t-shirts.

The centre actually closes to the public at 6pm so this allows an extra element of privacy.

Click here for more information and how to book.
