Additional Inclusion Support (AIS) Funding (PVI settings)

Every local authority must have a SEN inclusion fund to support early years providers in meeting the needs of individual children with SEN. In East Riding this is known as Additional Inclusion Support Funding.

Applications for Additional Inclusion Support funding are considered on a termly basis with funding to commence at the beginning of the following term. Requests are considered initially by the Area SENCo team prior to seeking approval from the Early Years Support Team. To ensure that the process to runs efficiently, requests must be received by the date published below for the Spring term of 2025.

Library Service - Children’s Halloween Costume Swap Shop

IT'S BACK! And just in time for the spooky season!

A fab way to keep Halloween that little bit more environmentally friendly, you can either donate a pre-loved children’s costume of your own to our swap shop or pick up one that's new to you!

The brainchild of two of our fab librarians, it's a lovely way to get involved, without having to spend loads of money or buy something that might only be worn once. Our Costume Swaps are up and running until Monday, 4 November.

You can even bring them back in after Halloween, so next year, we can make sure another child has a chance to get involved.

At Dingley’s Promise we are passionate about inclusion in the early years.  As a specialist provider ourselves we have been driving change in our local setting areas and nationally for some time now - follow the link for more info about us here.

We are always keen to share our learning and to facilitate yours with a wider audience and we are delighted to be able to offer you our free of charge ‘Early Years Inclusion Lunch Breaks’ which are funded by the DfE through the EYSEND partnership.  

Our lunch break sessions (please bring your lunch!) take place on the second Monday each month from 12.30-1.30pm and look a bit like this:  

• Welcome and introductions
• What we talked about last time
• Spotlight session: to be confirmed
• Ask the room - there is a VAST amount of experience out there and if you have something you would like to ask this amazingly experienced group, we will invite you to do so, for example "has anybody got, done, come across, or developed…”. 
• What’s next? Our collective views on how to shape the next lunch break with us

Please come ready and armed to share what you are doing in your area, and we will gather the best of the best to share nationally.

Mouth Cancer Action Awareness month

My name is Tracey Burton, and I am an Oral Health Practitioner, commissioned by the East Riding Council to promote and support oral health care in our county.

Mouth Cancer Action Month is an event which is held throughout the UK during November every year. I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to join us and to support this event through your social media presence.

Over the last year, over 8,300 people have been diagnosed with mouth cancer in the UK alone. This can be a life limiting disease if not caught early. Any public awareness you can generate on your social media platforms to your followers, may save lives.

Anti-Bullying Prevention and Management in Educational Settings

As part of Anti Bullying Week 2024 (11 - 14th November) we are pleased to be able to offer the following webinar to our colleagues:

This comprehensive training offers practitioners working with young people in educational settings the essential knowledge and tools to address bullying effectively. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what constitutes bullying and how it differs from safeguarding. The course covers strategies for managing bullying within educational settings, supporting both victims and those displaying bullying behaviors, and understanding the far-reaching impact of bullying. You'll also explore practical approaches to reduce the likelihood of bullying, raise awareness of its causes and effects, and engage with lived experiences and support available in the East Riding.

While designed for educational professionals, the content is highly transferable to other practitioners working with young people, making it an invaluable resource for a wide range of settings.

Early Years Support amended request form 

In a response to feedback from referring agencies, the Early Years Support request form has had a revamp!

Referrers who are not requesting support or a discussion by Early Years Support can now complete an information only notification. 

Referrers who are making a request for further support and services will need to complete an Early Years Support request form and submit their accompanying information. However, referrers will notice that the information Early Years Support ask for in the request has also been amended and should not take as long to complete.

You will be asked to select how you are submitting your information and be directed to making a request for a partnership response or an information only notification. 

Do you want to be more involved in how the local authority shapes and delivers services around SEND and Inclusion?

This is your opportunity to participate in the revised SEND Board and subgroups.

A brief overview of these groups is given below:

SEND AND INCLUSION BOARD – To review performance of SEND and Inclusion as a whole across all areas in relation to the Strategic plan and raise any key points to the Children and Young People’s Partnership Board.

Strategic Group - This group reviews the progress and creation of any Strategies and Improvement Plans.

SEND and Inclusion Performance group – This group looks at the data around SEND – number of plans/ waiting lists etc and any review of the quality of work as well and what is being done to improve this.

Integrated Development Group – This group looks at all the training and opportunities to support the workforce – Health/Education/Early Years as well as support and training for parents and young people.

Voice – This group looks at co production activity, engagement activity, feedback from the local offer and development of new information and resources, this group will send information from the wider community back to the SEND and Inclusion Board.

Transition Group – This group will focus on any transitional point in a young person’s life such as EYFS – Primary – Secondary – Preparing for Adulthood – Post 16, short term breaks, Education Other Than At School/ Alternative provision.

Share your views and experiences of SEND provision

The Big Listen

On Monday 14, October we launched ‘The Big Listen’ our official SEND and Inclusion Strategy Consultation as part of one of a number of activities designed to hear from as many people as possible about the future of SEND and Inclusion. 

We want to hear your views on what is currently working effectively and what we need to develop. Complete the survey to have your say by Wednesday, 31 December.

Alongside the online Strategy Consultation, we will be directly gathering the views of children and young people by visiting educational settings, schools and groups across the county to ensure we hear their voice so that they directly input into the creation of the new Strategy. If you have a SEN group or would be able to support us with gathering views please email Emma Gray

We will be starting to draft a Strategy in a series of co-production events for professionals, parents, and young people with SEND, taking place in County Hall, Beverley:

New Childminder flexibilities coming in from 1 November

The Department for Education is introducing new flexibilities for childminders from 1 November to help more childminders join and stay in the profession. The new flexibilities will:

• Create a new category of childminder (childminder without domestic premises) who work entirely from non-domestic premises
• Increase, from 3 to 4, the total number of people that can work together under a childminder’s registration (including the childminder)
• Give childminders and providers of childcare on domestic premises (CODPs) more flexibility, allowing them to spend more time operating outside of domestic premises, such as a community hall or school
• Increase the number of people needed for CODPs to operate from 4 or more, to 5 or more people providing care. Note: CODPs that were registered, or applied to register, before 1 November can continue operating with 4 or more people.
