Join us to learn more about supported internships and how they can benefit your child. This online event is particularly designed for parents, carers, and representatives from Parent Carer Forums. During the webinar, we’ll hear personal experiences from past supported interns and employers, and see how they benefited from the internship.  We’ll also hear from a government representative explaining how the government supports more young people with SEND into work.

*Supported internships are study programmes for young people, aged 16 to 24, who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and want to move into employment, but need some extra support.  They provide work experience for young people with disabilities so they can gain skills and develop in confidence. In brief, supported internships give young people an opportunity to take their first steps into the world of employment, build skills in the workplace, gain qualifications, and use these to potentially get a paid job.

East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum Events & Coffee Mornings coming up MAY 2023 (For East Riding of Yorkshire families)  

Event 1 REMINDER

Notes – SENDIASS and SARAH LEADLEY SEND Information, Advice and Guidance Officer will be joining us. 

The SEND Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Officers sit within the 0-25 SEND Team as part of Children and Young People, Specialist Services. 

To access support from a SEND IAG officer, a child or young person will have undergone an Education, Health and Care needs assessment for SEND and hold an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). 

The role of the SEND IAG is specifically around supporting children/young people and the families with regards to post-16 education: 

• SEND IAGs provide children/young people and their families with specialist SEND-specific information, advice and guidance on educational choices post-16.
• They work with educational settings to provide specialist SEND-specific information, advice and guidance on educational choices post-16.
• Provide support for children/young people to prepare for adult life with a focus on enabling young people to be happy and active members of their community with the greatest level of independence.

To receive support from a SEND IAG officer, it is expected that, where applicable, a child or young person will have received careers advice and guidance from a professional within their setting at first. Our SEND IAG officers work closely with all settings with East Riding students on-roll and possess a wealth of knowledge regarding post-16 educational opportunities that are available for children and young people with SEND. 

  Coffee and Cake, informal, chat, advice and support.  

Refreshments provided. We can also provide expenses support (mileage or public transport) or any childcare costs although children are more than welcome.

Event 2 

Coming soon – our NEW Supper Club  

After the great success of our Breakfast Clubs we have decided to start running a Supper Club. This is to offer support to working parents & carers that are unable to attend our other events that are on during the week. We have received a lot of feedback from parents asking for an evening option so we hope that this will help. 

 The Supper Club will be an evening meal out (tea time) provided by us at various locations throughout East Yorkshire. Children are welcome. 

Please can you let us know what times would suit you best? We would like to try and make these new Supper Clubs as accessible as possible for everyone.

Bulletin Dates for your Diary 

Just a reminder that the bulletin is sent out fortnightly, every other Thursday at 9am, the deadline for submitting information to be included in the bulletin is the day before (Wednesday) at 12pm, below are the next few bulletin dates and deadlines. The dates for the next edition will still be included at the bottom of every bulletin we send.

Event – The Lookout Pop up Hub. We have portage, EYPFC, SENDIASS, KIDS family Support and 0-25 SEND team attending, with more still to be confirmed. All in one place! Come along and ask as many questions as you like. After 3:30 we will have games and food - it’s Chill out at The Lookout! Children welcome all day.

The Information Group, forming part of the Voice and Engagement strands of the SEND Development and Improvement Plan, are recruiting new parents and carers to join the group.  The purpose of the Information Group is to work in coproduction with our parents and carers, for example

• To ensure that information about health, social care and educational services for children and young people (aged 0-25 years) with SEND, with or without an EHCP, is fit for purpose and accessible to parents, carers and young people.
• To advise and support on the development of information resources to ensure they meet the needs of parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.
• To provide a quality control function to ensure that information for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND is fit for purpose, comprehensible, accessible, accurate and up to date.
