Councillors pledge to recognise and protect the rights of rivers in East Devon

Reflecting the strength of feeling locally and nationally about the health of rivers and waterways, councillors have called for unity across Devon and the need for action.

While the council is not responsible for water quality regulation, it works closely with water companies and other partners to support improvements and advocate for cleaner rivers.

Council phone lines expected to be busier than usual

Annual council tax bills will soon be coming through letterboxes across East Devon. A much higher number of phone calls than usual from residents to the District Council are expected because of this. Thanks for your patience during this busy time.

Seafront path closures in Sidmouth

Due to essential cliff repair works, the undercliff / Millennium Walkway is currently closed from Jacob’s Ladder to the beach access steps, near the offshore breakwaters, until further notice. For safety reasons, a section of the cliff top path within Connaught Gardens is also closed, near the Glasshouse.

We appreciate your patience while this important work is carried out and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please follow on-site signage and use alternative routes where possible.


Discover projects supported through the Creative East Devon Fund

41 inspiring initiatives including new cultural projects, festivals and arts events have been supported through ACED's Creative East Devon Fund (CEDF). The CEDF provides discretionary financial support to East Devon-based art and culture initiatives and projects that demonstrate a commitment to developing the East Devon Cultural Strategy. This scheme has been funded through the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Ottery car park closure scheduled for resurfacing work

Canaan Way Car park in Ottery St Mary is scheduled to be closed for two weeks from Monday 9 to Friday 20 March 2026 for resurfacing works. Existing permit holders for Canaan Way have been contacted, outlining provisions to minimise disruption.


Upcoming job fair to showcase variety of roles making a difference for our communities

On Friday 13 March 2026, StreetScene will be hosting a job fair from 10am–4pm at Camperdown Depot in Exmouth (parking available at Camperdown Terrace EX8 1EJ).

East Devon is recruiting for a range of operational roles across the district, that make a visible difference every single day.

Appointments will be through an agency, but many could lead to longer term placements or permanent employment with the Council. Recruitment Unlimited and Gap Personnel will be on hand throughout the day to talk through the roles, application process, and next steps.

'All for Your Delight' brings the spirit of golden-age variety right into the heart of local communities. Produced by the team at Farnham Maltings and directed by Katy Potter, with an original script by Alex Kanefsky, the show has music composed by two-time Olivier Award-winning composer and lyricist Darren Clark.

'All For Your Delight' will be performed at Lympstone Village Hall from 7.30pm on Wednesday 11 March 2026.
