Severe weather update
Flooding and storm damage around East Devon. The map shows the Met Office's yellow rain warning area for Friday 30 January until Saturday 1 February
We would like to thank everyone who has supported our communities during the severe weather.
Weather warnings
A Met Office yellow warning of rain is currently in place until 6am on Saturday 31 January 2026 and there's another warning for between 12pm on Monday 2 February until 9am on Tuesday 3 February 2026.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has also warned that large, powerful waves are possible, so people should stay a safe distance from the water.
Public toilets
During periods of bad weather, East Devon's public toilets may need to close early for the safety of staff.
One of the accessible toilets on Seaton seafront is currently closed because of storm damage. Due to the weather forecast, clear-up work on Seaton Esplanade will begin next week, with a full assessment taking place on the morning of Monday 2 February 2026.
Recycling and waste collections
Thank you for your patience whilst collection crews catch up on missed collections. If your collection hasn't taken place yet, please continue to leave your containers out, and the crews will collect these as soon as is possible.
Travel updates
Devon County Council has advised that even when flooding has subsided, some roads may remain closed until they are made safe or repaired. They will be posting highways updates on their news page and Devon Alert social media pages. If you're planning on taking public transport, check the status and disruptions on the rail network or bus service updates.

Council websites unavailable due to maintenance on Saturday 31 January 2026
We are undertaking some major planned maintenance to council websites on Saturday 31 January 2026, from 9am to 6pm. During this time the website, including any online services provided through the site such as web forms and online planning searches, will be unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time.
4,370 tonnes of glass collected from East Devon households in 2025
Thank you for recycling as much glass as you can
Glass is readily recyclable into new glass containers, so please put all your jars and bottles into your recycling box for collection at the kerbside. Aluminium bottle tops and jar lids can go in your recycling sack, and these valuable items will get recycled with all the other aluminium items we collect.

Seaton Wetlands visitor numbers continued to soar in 2025
In 2025, there were 124,850 visitors to Seaton Wetlands - an 11% increase on the 2024 previous record. The continued growth has been driven by a combination of favourable weather, a popular programme of events, and national exposure through a visit from BBC’s Countryfile.Â
