Fake QR codes at council car parks

Please note that online parking payments at East Devon District Council are made through the official RingGo app, available from the Android and Apple app stores, and QR code are not used for parking transactions.

QR code stickers were recently found on some of the council's machines and signage, and these have since been removed.

The QR codes take victims to a site impersonating RingGo, endangering personal and bank details, whilst also risking the driver receiving a parking ticket.

The Car Parks team will continue to remove any stickers that they find. If you see any QR codes on the council's machines or signage, please report these to carparks@eastdevon.gov.uk

Find more information about paying for parking on East Devon District Council's website.

Council Tax email scams

Fraudsters pretending to be from local councils have emailed residents to tell them that they have outstanding Council Tax account payments, and to follow a link to proceed to payment.

Stay safe, vigilant, and keep an eye out for tell-tale signs of scams like urgent or threatening language, non-official email addresses or spelling and grammar issues. If an email appears to be suspicious, please don't click on any links or attachments, or provide personal information in response.

If East Devon District Council needs to send emails to residents that have fallen into arrears, these would be sent from an official @eastdevon.gov.uk email address and any links would be on the eastdevon.gov.uk website.

Contact us if a scammer impersonates the council and report the scam to Action Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Choose a name for East Devon's new community

Four possible names have been shortlisted for East Devon's New Community, inspired by local history, the area’s geography and environment, and previous public feedback.

Find out why these options have been suggested, and rank them in order of preference, before the deadline of 5pm on Tuesday 26 August 2025.

This consultation follows earlier engagement on the proposed layout and location of the New Community. Choosing a name now will help give the place a clear identity and shape the look and feel of the area as it grows.

Why not also have your say on the future of local government in Devon?

Help shape the final recommendation about the future of local government.

Areas like Devon, which currently operate under a two-tier system (with both district and county councils), are now being asked to consider moving to a unitary authority model, where a single council is responsible for all local services.

Complete the online survey before the deadline of Monday 11 August 2025.

If you, or someone you know, is unable to complete an online survey, request a paper version, by emailing engagement@eastdevon.gov.uk. Please submit this request at least four days before the consultation closes, so that we receive the responses before the deadline.
