Is your home safe from gas leaks?
There’s nothing more important than staying safe in your home. That is why East Devon District Council (EDDC) is joining forces with Liberty to raise awareness of Gas Safety Week. This year’s theme focuses on the importance of 'Checking – Every Check Counts'.
EDDC's Housing Service works closely with Liberty to perform annual boiler inspections at 3,142 council-owned homes, and if you’re a council tenant you can attend a specially organised presentation on the importance of gas safety on Friday 13 September 2024, 10am-12pm, at Dunning Court in Honiton.
Keep an eye on EDDC's social media channels throughout the week for helpful gas safety advice.
Exe Estuary Wildlife Refuges active to welcome back migrating birds
The South East Devon Wildlife team are asking visitors to the Exe Estuary to to give flocks of birds the space they need to rest and feed. The wildlife refuges are a huge success, and birds are increasingly using these areas as safe spaces.
The Exmouth Wildlife Refuge, marked with signage and yellow buoys, becomes active from Sunday 15 September 2024 to Tuesday 31 December 2024. The Dawlish Warren Refuge is active all year round.
Ospreys make a splash at Seaton Wetlands

A record number of ospreys have been seen fishing in the Axe Estuary at Seaton, with up to four of these iconic birds being spotted on Sunday 1 September 2024. The estuary is home to grey mullet, a fish species which feeds near to the water surface, and is ideal prey for the fish-specialist osprey as they look to build up energy reserves before a huge southerly migration to sub-Saharan Africa.

One of East Devon District Council's housing association partners, LiveWest, is holding a planning consultation event later this month for a proposed extra care development in Cranbrook.
Learn more about the project, which could provide 58 new affordable homes, by visiting Younghayes Centre, 169 Younghayes Road, on Thursday 19 September 2024 between 3.15pm and 7pm.
The proposed development is designed to address demand for specialist housing that gives adults aged 55+ with care needs the independence of their own home and access to on-site care and support. The plans include communal facilities on the ground floor and car parking to meet operational needs.
LiveWest is the largest housing provider in the south west, owning and managing more than 40,000 homes across the region. You can find out more about the proposals online.
