A new overarching service to provide support for voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) groups and organisations in East Devon will soon start to take shape.
Commissioned by East Devon District Council (EDDC), with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities), this important work for the VCSE sector starts this summer and will be facilitated by independent charity, Devon Communities Together which has a long-established reputation for working closely with rural communities and the groups and organisations that support them.
The new service will be designed in close collaboration with East Devon’s VCSE sector to provide better connections across groups and organisations in the district.
Joint approaches to tackling important issues will be encouraged, with topics anticipated to include health and social care, social isolation and loneliness, fundraising, community resilience, transport, inequalities and climate change.
Happy Pride Month
The LGBTQ+ progress flag flying outside EDDC's Blackdown House headquarters on 1 July
51 years have passed since the UK's first official Gay Pride Rally. While it is important that this month is celebrated in particular, equality is a year-round issue and actions speak louder than words.
That's why not only is East Devon District Council marking this occasion by flying the LGBTQ+ progress flag, earlier this year an overwhelming majority of councillors backed a motion setting out steps for East Devon to be a ‘welcoming, inclusive and respectful’ space for all people in this community.
Upcoming events this month include Exmouth Pride, which will be taking place on 17 June.

As part of Empty Homes Week, we shared the story of a man who makes a living bringing derelict buildings back to life
East Devon District Council is committed to reducing the number of long-term empty properties in our area, that are unoccupied or unfurnished for more than 6 months. As part of this work, owners of properties that our records show fit this criteria will be written to.
