Maintenance work to our telephone lines will be taking place on Wednesday 26 April from around 10am and it is expected that we will not be able to make or receive external phone calls for two hours.

During this time if you need to get in contact with us, please head to our website.

There'll be a test of the UK Emergency Alerts service this weekend

Govt graphic: On 23 April we will be testing our new emergency alerts system and you'll get an alert like this one on your mobile phone.

On Sunday 23 April at 3pm your mobile phone or tablet may make a loud siren-like sound (even if it’s set on silent), vibrate and read out an alert.

While we recommend that you receive alerts in case of a real emergency, there are some vulnerable groups who may wish to opt-out, if this applies to you, you can do so here.

23,000 new trees to benefit local community, wildlife, and environment in the Lower Otter

Newly planted trees at the Lower Otter Restoration Project

New trees and hedgerows create vital habitats for small mammals, birds and insects, and ‘lock-in’ carbon

23,000 saplings have been planted through the Lower Otter Restoration Project in Budleigh Salterton. A significant proportion of this tree planting is on the site of a former domestic tip, which has been raised to allow nature to reclaim it.

Once completed, this project will reconnect the Otter Estuary to its historic floodplain, restore wetland habitats and create wildlife viewing areas. A raised road, road bridge, footpath and the relocation of Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club will reduce the impact of flooding to this area.

This weekend's biodiversity action: try home composting

Home composting helps lower emissions of the greenhouse gas methane, reduces your waste and improves the growth and health of the plants in your garden. If composting at home isn't your thing, don’t worry - sign up for our green waste collections.

Head to our biodiversity starts on your doorstep webpages for more weekend gardening ideas.

The items in this photo were all recently put into recycling sacks which contaminate the materials we can recycle

Please help us cut out contamination, by only putting those items that we can recycle from kerb-side into your recycling sacks and boxes. Your sack is only for recycling the packaging items shown on the sack. Many of these items can be recycled or reused at recycling centres.

The items that you can put into your recycling containers are shown: on the containers, on our A-Z website page, in our guides and bin hangers, which we issue periodically, or you can use the East Devon App, or our Alexa recycling skill
