The start of exciting new plans to regenerate sites across Exmouth town centre and its seafront are beginning, with the launch of public workshops and an online questionnaire.
The Placemaking in Exmouth Town and Seafront Group – which is being led by East Devon District Council – is looking to gather residents’ and visitors’ thoughts on the key themes and characteristics they want to shape future developments.
An online questionnaire went live on Thursday 23 June for around eight weeks, focuses on the future for Exmouth, looking for views on how it could improve various key sites – the locations of which will be outlined later down the road.
Two workshops will be held for the general public on Thursday 14 July, from 7pm until 9.30pm and on Sunday, 31 July, from 10am until 12.30pm at Exmouth’s Ocean Queen’s Drive on the top floor.
Vandalised Seaton toilets reopen, with leader pledging to protect facilities' future

Toilets which were closed after being targeted by vandals in Seaton have been reopened, under reduced hours, to discourage the facility from being targeted again.
The Thury Harcourt Place Toilets were reopened on Friday, June 17, after some of the worst graffiti East Devon District Council (EDDC) has ever seen.
EDDC’s leader Councillor Paul Arnott has visited the site in response to local concerns and has personally guaranteed there will always be toilet facilities at this site, with the existing toilets being in place until April 2023, before being remodelled to future proof the facility for years to come.

Ottery’s Pixie Day is taking place this Saturday
Mischievous pixies will descend on Ottery St Mary to wreak havoc this weekend.
The town's annual Pixie Day will take place on Saturday, 25 June.
The event will see the town's children dress up as pixies, invade the town and ‘capture’ bellringers, before taking them to Land of Canaan and then down to their ‘cave’ by the river.
The event will centre on Land of Canaan where there will be a fete from 1.30pm featuring stalls, games, ferret racing, Tae-Kwon Do demonstrations, live music, a bar, refreshments and a pet show.
Free workshops being held on applying for grants in East Devon
Are you part of an East Devon voluntary, community or social enterprise group? Do you need help with applying for grants? If so, Devon Communities Together are working with East Devon District Council to run two FREE workshops that could help you.
These ‘Writing Winning Funding Applications’ workshops will cover how to write applications to grant providers which are eligible, to the point, comprehensive, engaging and more likely to be successful.
Share your stories of breastfeeding to help others for National Breastfeeding Week (27 June – 3 July)
Have you ever breastfed? We need you!
'Everyone has a part to play in helping mums to breastfeed' is the theme of this year's National Breastfeeding Week, coming soon.
What did someone do (or not do!) that made a difference for you? Maybe a family member was particularly encouraging, a business helped you feel super welcome, a doctor checked your medication was breastfeeding friendly or your boss helped you carry on feeding when you went back to work.
We'll be asking people across our organisations and communities to pledge what they each can do to play their part, whether in their personal or professional lives, so we'd love to share your examples with them for inspiration!

Be aware of ticks, avoid Lyme disease this summer
If you are spending more time outside, especially in grassy and wooded areas, there's many things you can do to avoid being bitten:
- Wear clothing that covers your skin in places they are more likely to bite.
- Use insect repellent
- Check yourself, your clothing, your pets and others for ticks, after spending time outside
- Wear light coloured clothing while walking outside.
Not all ticks carry the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, but it's important to safely remove ticks as soon as possible. The safest way is to use a pair of fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal device. Read more here.
Lyme disease symptoms include:
- A spreading circular red rash, like a bulls-eye rash
- Non-specific flu-like symptoms.

Recycling news
Plastic Recycling – no plastic coat hangers!
We are getting a lot of plastic coat hangers in our recycling sacks.
Unfortunately we are unable to recycle these items from the kerb-side. Please do not put them into your recycling sack as they contaminate the plastic packaging we do recycle.
When clothes shopping, if you do not need the hanger, please leave it behind with the retailer, so they can return it to their supplier for re-use.
To check what plastic items you can put in your recycling sack click here.
Thank you for recycling.
