New campaign promotes construction careers to younger recruits
This week marks the launch of a new campaign ‘Build a Better Tomorrow’ which aims to inspire the future workforce and promote high value careers in construction to younger workers, making it easier for them to access opportunities within the sector.
The campaign has been launched by Building Greater Exeter. The digital campaign highlights the variety of roles and training opportunities available to 16–24-year-olds.
At the heart of the campaign is a short film which showcases young people from partner construction businesses, working in a diverse range of construction roles and highlighting how construction is a rewarding, first class career. To maximise youth awareness and engagement, the campaign will run on Google, TikTok, YouTube Instagram and Facebook.

Since its launch in September 2021, the council's Innovation and Resilience Fund has awarded £2,082,918 in grant funding to 51 individual and collaborative bidders.
Successful projects included everything from the development of carbon capture technology, to packaging equipment for local food and drink producers, to smaller grants for sole traders seeking to digitise their business. The final list of successful applicants can be found here.
Demand for the IRF scheme was much higher than initially expected. Applicants who were not able to access funding in the last round of IRF have since been offered the opportunity to access free 1-2-1 business support to turn their bid into an investment-ready business plan.
We will keep you updated if any new funding schemes come forward. We also recommend signing up to Devon Funding News to keep up to date with other funding schemes across the county.
Work has begun to develop an Investment Plan to bid into the new UK Shared Prosperity Fund which replaces EU structural funding.
East Devon has been allocated £1.8m over a three year period, which can only be unlocked upon submission of a comprehensive Investment Plan containing a full list of the projects we wish to deliver.
A Local Partnership Group of stakeholders has been established to help inform the types of projects to be included. This groups includes local members of parliament, community organisations, climate and conservation groups, business representative groups and a wide cross section of other public sector bodies.
The 1 August 2022 deadline to submit our Investment Plan is fast approaching. More information about the fund and our local priorities can be found here.
East Devon District Council is leading on the development of a tourism strategy for East Devon.
Our ambition is to articulate a distinctive and inspiring vision for tourism in East Devon and develop an engaging, aspirational and achievable tourism strategy for our district. We are developing a collaborative approach, building on existing strengths and identifying future opportunities including the promotion of sustainable tourism and the development of our cultural visitor offer.
A number of stakeholder engagements have taken place to inform the strategy and we welcome your views about the priorities it should address. If you would like to contribute your views and join the conversation, please contact Geri Panteva at gpanteva@eastdevon.gov.uk by the 30th June.
