Welcome to Council News, your fortnightly update from our council.
Our team is always keen to give you updates on the things that matter the most to you.
We also want to share positive stories about things that are happening in your community.
If you have news that you'd like to share – shining a light on an individual, community group or event – we would love to feature them in our Community bulletin.
Please email us at communitybulletin@dumgal.gov.uk with feedback or story ideas and one of our reporters will get back to you.
 Help Shape Our Poverty and Inequalities Strategy
We are asking organisations across Dumfries and Galloway to share their experience and help shape the refreshed Poverty and Inequalities Strategy.
The council and its partners are updating the strategy to ensure that future priorities reflect the needs and experiences of communities across the region.
Staff, volunteers and organisations working with people affected by poverty or inequality can provide valuable insight into wider challenges, gaps in support and opportunities for change.
If you work or volunteer with a relevant organisation, please complete the organisation feedback survey and encourage colleagues and partner organisations to contribute.
People with lived experience of poverty or inequality can also contribute through the separate individual survey.
Should I Keep My Child Off School or Childcare?
Children and staff who are unwell should not attend school or nursery, and some illnesses have specific conditions that must be met before they return.
Public Health Scotland has produced a helpful poster for parents and carers explaining when children should be kept off school or childcare.
Parents and carers looking for information about an infection or illness should visit NHS inform or contact their GP if they are concerned. Please also follow your school’s local procedures for reporting an absence.
 School Meals for the New Term
Information is available for families about school meals in both primary and secondary schools across Dumfries and Galloway.
Primary school pupils in Primary 1 to Primary 5 are entitled to free school meals. Families can find information about primary school menus, arrangements and meal provision online.
Secondary school pupils can select from a range of meal options, with information available about menus, payment arrangements and entitlement to free school meals.
