Invitation for:

1) Nomination for the new Schools Executive Committee and / or

2) Expression of Interest to Represent Schools on Working Groups

1) Nomination for the new Schools Executive Commttee

From September 2020, the DAPH and DASH Executive Committee structure will cease to exist under the new Devon Schools Leadership Services CIO.

A new sub-committee of DSLS will be established under the name of Schools Executive Committee (SEC) which will continue the work of DAPH & DASH as the core consultative and advisory group for schools and the CIO. It will be the vehicle for educational planning for DSLS and will act as the unified voice for schools.

The SEC will comprise of 12 elected members (6 primary plus 6 secondary) ideally with proportionate representation from L/A and academy schools from each of the 4 areas of Devon and provide an optimum spread of specialist knowledge from each of the key DCC working group/statutory boards e.g. DEF, SFG, SOCA, SEND, Safeguarding and other themes identified as priority areas from time to time.

A draft copy of the SEC Terms of Reference and Committee Member Role Descriptor can be found here

(note this is subject to final sign off by the DSLS Board on 30/6/20).

Nominations are now being sought for the opening membership of the SEC and school leaders from all Devon academy and L/A maintained schools (primary and secondary) are invited to apply. Current members of the outgoing DAPH & DASH Executive Committees will also be required to apply for these new roles.

Whilst membership is limited to a committee of 12, this smaller, cross phase group will work closely with DCC, the DSLS Board and Business Support Centre to ensure that schools are appropriately represented on local authority groups and that there is effective communication and consultation to support effective decision making. The SEC will also be responsible for the agenda content for Leadership Briefings and Area Meetings.

2) Expression of Interest to Represent Schools on Working Groups

Representation on working groups will not be restricted to members of the committee and to create additional capacity and breadth of knowledge across the schools’ community we are also seeking Expressions of Interest from school leaders to represent the phases at various local authority groups. These roles will provide an excellent opportunity for CPD and acquiring further knowledge, possibly in an area of personal interest e.g. safeguarding, SEND, finance to name a few but without the additional commitment of SEC membership.

Appointment to the SEC and/or representation on working groups will be supported by way of Service Level Agreement signed by the school leader, the Governing or Trust Board and DSLS CIO. Attendance at meetings will be remunerated at £50 per hour and reimbursed back to the releasing school against invoice.

To put forward your name for these roles please complete the following online form:

The closing date for nominations is noon on 6 July 2020.

A final list of nominations per phase will be confirmed at the forthcoming DAPH & DASH AGM/EGMs on 8 July 2020:

Note: once confirmed, elected members will be required to attend a joint meeting of the DSLS CIO Board of Trustees and the SEC on 17 July 2020 at 10am - 11am.
