COVID-19 vaccinations

The NHS in Coventry and Warwickshire is calling for everyone eligible to get their booster before Christmas. The numbers of appointments have been greatly increased across the area and further sites have been added where you can get a jab with no appointment necessary.

As part of the biggest and fastest vaccine programme in health service history, online bookings are now available at www.nhs.uk for everyone over 18 or by calling 119. To be eligible for a booster jab, people must have had their second dose at least three months ago.

Broadgate, Coventry: A pop-up clinic is taking place in Broadgate in Coventry on Saturday 18 between 10am-4pm and Sunday 19 between 11am-4pm. No appointment necessary – just walk in.

Central Library pop-up: A pop-up will be held at Coventry Central Library on Saturday 18 between 10am-4pm and Wednesday 22 between 3.30pm and 6pm. First doses will also be available at this site for children aged 12-15 that haven’t yet had their jab.

See up to date information on local vaccination and booster clinics.

Let’s get Sugarsmart

New Year is often the time when we think about making changes to our lifestyles and there is plenty of support available for you whether its quitting smoking or increasing physical activity. For support with goal setting, tips, information and advice for a healthier you visit Healthy Lifestyles Coventry

Many people start a diet in January and something people often try to work on is reducing sugar intake. The NHS Live Well site has plenty of ideas on how to cut down, recipes and information on daily recommended amounts.

To support our residents with reducing sugar intake, Wellbeing for Life is working with some primary schools across Coventry and Warwickshire on a pilot to become 'Sugarsmart'. By signing up to the Sugarsmart pledges and working with children and families, we can tackle healthy eating and oral health in a fun and interactive way that will have longer lasting effects.

You can sign up to Sugarsmart as an individual, community group, education setting or workplace and if you are a primary school interested in joining our pilot scheme, please contact josouthan@warwickshire.gov.uk for more details.

Services for Schools update

Although there’ll be a separate email to all schools on this project, I just wanted to include a reference to this in the weekly round-up to you all too.

Firstly, thank you for all your positive engagement, feedback, and time in working with us to design and deliver the new schedule early next year.

As we work towards developing a completely new system in partnership with colleagues, we will initially be having an interim system to act as a central purchasing point and information area for all our services, with the intention of having the final system in place for 2023.

For now, the key date to note is Wednesday 26 January 2022, which is when the new portal goes live. You will all receive a specific notification in January, ahead of the actual launch, on how to access and use the system so we will be back in touch.

As also mentioned in the separate email this week, we’d like to develop a dedicated e-newsletter to keep you all up to date with the project, this will include, key dates/timelines, marketing updates, project feedback and case studies to share good practice and benefits of the service.

To ensure you receive your copy of the Services to Schools e-newsletter, please sign up at ServicesForSchools@coventry.gov.uk to receive regular updates.

UK Cost of the School Day

UK Cost of the School Day (CoSD) is providing an opportunity for schools in Coventry to learn more about poverty, its effects on children and families and potential approaches to tackling financial barriers and promoting equity.

We are running a virtual poverty-awareness training session on Tuesday 4 January at 2pm – 2.30pm. This short training session will briefly explore poverty and the impact it has on the education of a child living in poverty as well as giving an overview of the UK Cost of the School Day programme, and practical actions that schools have taken to address the impact that poverty has on their pupils.

This session is aimed at Pupil Premium Leads, pastoral staff or those with an interest in disadvantage and poverty who work in primary, secondary and SEN schools in Coventry and are interested in finding out more about child poverty. There is no cost to attend this training session.

Microsoft Teams link to the session.
