Join a series of free workshops to grow your business

The DIT (Department of International Trade) have launched a series of ERDF funded SME International Growth Project workshops to support you along the journey. Each workshop is designed to cover critical milestones, potential trade barriers and key considerations to support in your strategic planning and decision-making. All sessions will be delivered at our Wolverhampton Science Park training hub.   

Workshop: Market research and selection

11 February 2020 (09:00-12:30)  Join this interactive workshop for an invaluable introduction to the process of planning and conducting marketing research overseas… Market research is the first and one of the most vital steps for any organisation whether they are entering a new overseas market or developing existing markets. You will consider different approaches and research techniques and start to develop a research plan for your own business. What we will cover: 

  • Commonly seen methods of market selection and prioritisation
  • An objective, easy-to-use model for choosing the best target export markets
  • Understanding the key criteria to use when making market selection decisions
  • Objective measurement of these criteria using a grid/spreadsheet approach
  • Sources of freely available quantitative and qualitative data to help assess potential markets and opportunities
  • Delegates will develop their own model, undertaking interactive exercises at all the above stages. These exercises will therefore be directly relevant to the delegates own business
  • We will also introduce the online Market Selection Tool, which has been used successfully by many West Midlands companies

Alternative Routes to Market and the International Agreement

28 February 2020 (09:00-12:30)  Designed for businesses that are actually making a product(s) i.e. manufacturers that are selling or seeking to sell directly or indirectly into overseas markets. This interactive seminar will give businesses the confidence to venture into familiar and uncharted markets, where opportunities may exist to sell their goods overseas. What we will cover: 

  • How businesses trade internationally (direct or through intermediaries)
  • The regulatory requirements of the intermediary areas (as you go global)
  • Due diligence
  • The market entry barriers – how to overcome
  • Methodology to reduce risk 
  • Developing the ‘Agreement’:
  • Contract provisions – what a contract should look like

  • Managing the agreement

4 March 2020 (09:00-15:00) Join this free workshop where an experienced international trade finance expert will discuss current hot topics related to export payments, delivery terms and export procedures… What we will cover: 

  • Current key financial risks facing exporting companies
  • Developing new or existing overseas markets
  • Assessing the costs, risks and delivery obligations of your own company and overseas buyers, helping you to prepare for the forthcoming publication of the Incoterms ® 2020 rules
  • Negotiating international contract terms
  • Preparing export documents complying with UK and international regulation
  • Choosing the Terms and Methods of Payment and securing payments for exports

Free recruitment support for employers - The Job Shop

Coventry City Council's Employment Coaches can pre-screen, offer interview spaces and handle all your recruitment service at no cost.

The Job Shop, located in the city centre of Coventry welcomes on average a footfall of 600-700 people per week coming through its doors. Customers range from all areas and experience who are looking for support and advice to find employment and/or training in the Coventry and surrounding areas.

Employers who take on customers that have been on the Ignite Integration programme for a period of between 3-6 months are also eligible for grants to support them.

Candidates can range from local residents to EU & international candidates (all with the right to work) with a wide range of experience, skills and qualifications.

The aim is to reduce the skills gaps within industry for local employers by selecting the most relevant candidates to the vacancies, all of which have been pre-screened by our Job Coaches.

Dragons' Den - opportunity for businesses

The BBC are now in production of series 18 of Dragons' Den and on the hunt for business ideas, inventions or products with serious business potential that are hungry for investment.

Dragons’ Den is a challenging place to pitch, but it’s also a genuine business opportunity to secure investment. In the current series 27 entrepreneurs accepted offers of investment in the Den with a combined total of almost £2 million invested by the Dragons, with plenty more achieving success after taking on board the Dragons’ advice.
