Fish Stocking Dates

Father with Daughter at Neighborhood Fishin' lake

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocks fish that are big enough to catch and keep, and these fish are available for catching as soon as they land in the water.

  • 2015 Fall catfish stocking dates*  September 4 and 18, October 2, 16 and 30
  • 2015 Winter Rainbow trout stocking dates – Rainbow trout prefer cold water. In most areas of Texas, they can survive only in winter. Trout stocking begins in late November or early December and continues until March.

* Most lakes are stocked on Friday for weekend fishing. However, dates may change due to weather or other circumstances.

Welcome to Neighborhood Fishin'!

Neighborhood Fishin' is a fishing program for Texans who live in urban areas and want to go fishing close to home.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department works in partnership with local governments and private partners to stock fish in small neighborhood ponds and lakes.

  • Neighborhood Fishin’ lakes are safe, fun places to introduce children to fishing.
  • The fish are fun to catch, and big enough to keep (and eat).
  • Lakes are stocked every two weeks so lots of fish are available to take your bait.
