Governor Announces Nominations for Three New Members of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission
Governor Tina Kotek recently announced nominations for appointments of three new Higher Education Coordinating Commission members: Rachel Biscoe, Evelyn Kocher, and Gayle Yamasaki. The Senate Committee on Rules is scheduled to consider the nominations during September Legislative Days, which run from September 27-29, 2023, and their terms of service would begin on October 5, 2023. Rachel Biscoe is nominated for the community college student position that is currently vacant. Evelyn Kocher is nominated for the position at large currently held by Vanessa Becker, whose term is set to expire. Gayle Yamasaki is nominated for the second congressional district position that is currently vacant. Current Commissioners are listed here.
Registration is Open for the 2023 Oregon Adult Basic Skills Conference
Join us to collaborate and innovate with other professionals in adult basic skills and high school equivalency education! The 2023 Oregon Adult Basic Skills Conference on October 23 and 24 features keynote speaker Dr. Amanda Bastoni, the Director of Career, Technical & Adult Education at CAST. Our agenda covers GED® test education, career pathways, English for speakers of other languages, data and assessment, distance learning & digital literacy, and many other topics. The State of Oregon’s ASPIRE program invites you you register and attend the ASPIRE Fall Conference to learn more about supporting career and college readiness (CCR), network with colleagues, and share resources. This year we are hosting three conferences:
The annual ASPIRE Fall Conference will include sessions and workshops that focus on changes to the FAFSA/ORSAA, apprenticeship programs, resources for supporting college and career readiness in middle schools, and more. This conference is suitable for school administrators, teachers, counselors, career and college readiness staff, and community volunteers. More conference information is on our website.
OregonServes Announces Software System to Connect Volunteers During Disasters
As a partner in the Oregon’s Emergency Support Function for Volunteers and Donations, OregonServes proudly introduces Oregon Volunteers in Disaster (ORVID), an innovative online system for disaster volunteer management. ORVID streamlines the volunteer process by matching volunteers to organizations in times of disaster, providing a seamless experience for volunteers and organizations alike. ORVID is suited for emergency managers and various organizations active in disaster including government agencies, non-profits, and tribal organizations. Application Open for Oregon Tribal Student Grant for 2023-24
Current, new and continuing students who are members of Oregon's 9 federally recognized tribes are encouraged to apply for the Oregon Tribal Student Grant for the 2023-24 academic year. The Oregon Tribal Student Grant provides funding for eligible Oregon tribal students to offset the cost of attendance at eligible Oregon colleges and universities. Registration Open for 2024-2025 AmeriCorps Competitive Grant Information Sessions, October 3, and October 5
OregonServes is hosting two information sessions on October 3 and 5 for organizations interested in applying for the 2024-25 AmeriCorps Competitive Grant Opportunity to operate an AmeriCorps State program in Oregon. The Request for Applications (RFA) for these funds will be announced soon, and the applications will be due December 4. Potential applicants are encouraged but not required to attend the webinar can register here for new or here for continuing. New and continuing applicants must submit a Notice of Intent to Apply by October 6 by completing the form here. For a preview of the RFA focus, please review the federal 2024-25 AmeriCorps Notice of Funding Opportunity on which the Oregon RFA will be based. Outreach Presentation Requests - OSAC
Partners can request an outreach presentation this fall from the HECC Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC) through the OregonStudentAid.gov website. OSAC staff regularly give presentations and workshops to students, families, and career/college access staff at schools and sites across Oregon on a variety of topics related to career and college readiness. We present on postsecondary options, grants and scholarships, FAFSA/ORSAA completion, and more. Submit an outreach request here.
