SIA Update

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve shared updates with you about the next application cycles for the SIA. We are in the process of finalizing some guidance that details the nuts and bolts on what that means for plan updates and anticipate releasing more information in December. We’re concurrently moving through the SIA grant agreement process and working with you to receive all of the required documentation to fully execute grant agreements. In this week’s message, we would like to take the opportunity to extend deep appreciation for your work and celebrate that the first round of SIA dollars disbursed yesterday to several districts and eligible charter schools! It has been no small feat to launch the SIA initiative and would not have been possible without all of your efforts. With the upcoming holiday we will be taking a break from our weekly message and will plan to resume our weekly message on Friday, December 4. We look forward to reconnecting with you all after this break to continue the work ahead in fulfilling the promise of SIA and its commitment to community, focal student groups, and centering student health, academic success, and deep equity.

This Week’s Frequently Asked Question

Q: My district or charter school has received our fully executed grant agreement, but we’ve not received our first disbursement of funds. What should we do? 

A: Once you’ve received a fully executed grant agreement, the freeze on your SIA funds will be lifted. At that point, you will be able to submit a claim in EGMs for your first disbursement of funding. Remember you can only submit a claim for the first 40% of the total allocation amount. If you have any questions or issues submitting your claim, please email SIAInfo@state.or.us.

• As you may have seen, the Office of Indian Education recently released this Tribal Engagement Toolkit which provides resources for districts, Tribal Leaders, and Tribal Communities. 
• Oregon State School Board resolution on Black Lives Matter.
• We are now posting on the ODE Website the weekly report from the COVID-19 School Status Tracking Report. If you do not see your school reported on the weekly status report please email odecovid19@ode.state.or.us or check with your district administrator. With the release of Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance Version 4.0.0  and the revised metrics the weekly COVID-19 School Status report has been updated. We have released updated Instructions and Definitions for schools to use to submit the weekly update to the report. If you have not been receiving updates and believe you should please email odecovid19@ode.state.or.us to be added to the mailing list for the updated submission guidance for the weekly collection.
