Seeking Information on a Boeing Stearman ex-N69248 |
|
|
A piece of Oregon aviation history is getting ready to fly again—this time in Europe. A vintage Boeing Stearman that spent much of its working life in Oregon as a crop-dusting aircraft beginning in the 1950s is currently undergoing a full restoration. Logbooks show it was based in Aumsville and operated by E. Poet and later A. LaFleur, supporting agricultural operations across the region. During restoration, original Oregon pesticide equipment registrations from 1959 and 1964 were uncovered, along with a 1965 aircraft registration issued by the Oregon State Board of Aeronautics.
Have a memory, photo, or bit of history about this aircraft or its time flying over Oregon fields? We’d love to hear from you—your story could help bring another chapter of this airplane’s past back to life.
Check out the personal summary that was put together about this aircraft below!

Winter Season
The Crescent Lake, McKenzie Bridge, Santiam Junction, and Toketee State Airports are closed seasonally from November 1st through May 1st. Other state airports may be closed temporarily via NOTAMs due to winter conditions. Because we do not report surface conditions at all 28 state airports, many state airports may remain open with unknown surface conditions or contaminants.

Reminder to use Noise Abatement Procedures at UAO
As the weather improves, Oregonians will be ditching their umbrellas and raincoats for all the wonderful outdoor activities and scenery the state has to offer. For many of us, this means your first boat, ATV, motorcycle ride, road trip, or flight of the season is near. Maybe all of the above!
The Oregon Department of Aviation encourages all pilots to fly safe and neighborly. At the Aurora State Airport (UAO), we have developed noise abatement procedures to help avoid noise sensitive communities around the airport. Please fly neighborly and follow these procedures to reduce your noise impact.

Grant County Regional Airport (2024)
Priority 1 – FAA match
In 2025 Grant County Regional Airport (GCRA) completed the Runway 17/35 Widen and Reconstruction Project, which included reconstruction and widening of the runway from 60 feet to 75 feet, and replacement of all runway lighting including MIRLS (medium intensity runway lights), PAPI (precision approach pathway indicator), and REILS (runway end identifier lights) with LED lighting. GCRA serves a large part of Eastern Oregon, with uses including agriculture, tourism, government, and land management. Additionally, the airport is used by emergency medical and firefighting services, and acts as a helibase and training center for the United States Forest Service (USFS) rappeler firefighters. By completing this project, GCRA has improved its pavement and continues to maintain a safe and reliable operating surface for all aviation users.
Information on the COAR program may be found on our website or by reaching out to COAR Program Coordinators at Grants@ODAV.oregon.gov.
