The deadline for business owners to designate a “managing owner” for the new licensing portal (OMMA MedPortal), launching this fall, is approaching. 

If you have not provided OMMA details for the person who will serve as the “managing owner” for your business, please fill out this form: OMMA Business License: Managing Owner Designation. 

The managing owner will serve as the primary contact in the portal. This person must be someone who holds some percentage of ownership in the business. Choosing someone to serve as a managing owner in the new portal will result in more efficient communication when follow-up regarding the business is needed. It will also allow OMMA to add the information into the portal before it launches, ensuring a smooth transition for all.  

The managing owner will be able to add up to three business affiliates to the business account, whom they can delegate business-related responsibilities to after logging in to the portal and claiming the business. These affiliates may include existing business owners, employees, third-party consultants or attorneys.  

OMMA encourages every business to select an actively involved owner as the managing owner who is trusted with authority to oversee the license application process and fulfill other business-related obligations. Keep in mind, the agency is using the phrase “managing owner” to describe a business owner who is listed on a medical marijuana license and is given the responsibility of managing the OMMA MedPortal on behalf of the business.  

If a managing owner is not selected by you by Sept. 5, 2025, the person with the highest ownership percentage will automatically be assigned the role in the OMMA MedPortal. In instances of 50-50 ownership, you will receive a call from OMMA if no managing owner is selected.
