The 2023 survey has questions geared for autistic adults, families and caregivers of individuals with autism, as well as service providers and educators. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health (“OSDH”) will continue to accept and verify Certificate of Exemption forms submitted directly by schools on behalf of parents and/or legal guardians. OSDH is working diligently to process and verify exemption requests received by our offices and county health departments in a timely manner. However, we understand some schools and families have experienced a delay. One of our goals remains to provide all Oklahomans with the best possible service. As part of achieving that goal, we are actively reviewing the development of an online portal for future exemption request submission and verification. At this time, we encourage schools to allow students to attend while they await immunization exemption verification from OSDH.
I am Dr. Emily Kuntz, Ph.D., BCBA, and I am seeking Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who work in school settings to complete a 20-minute survey about their role, work activities, and experiences. The aim of this project is to (a) gain an understanding of the role, work activities, and experiences of BCBAs who work in school settings to better inform research and practice on how BCBAs can take an active and effective role in schools and (b) promote the role of school-based BCBAs. I am working to get a nationally representative sample. Your help in sharing this survey is greatly appreciated.
To all BCBAs: You may be eligible to participate in this survey! Additionally, you are welcomed and encouraged to share this email with other BCBAs. Participants who complete the survey will be eligible to enter a random drawing to win one of 10- $25 Amazon electronic gift cards.
Please contact me, Dr. Emily Kuntz, Ph.D., BCBA for more information.

Phil Kirschner, the son of a Polish immigrant, arrived in Muskogee in 1905 and drilled his first oil well at the age of 22. He married his wife Roberta Landwirth in 1954 and together, they became quiet, yet generous, philanthropists. Much of their charitable efforts centered on supporting orphans, youth with disabilities, Jewish causes, and Muskogee nonprofits.
After Phil’s death in 1981, five charitable trusts were established to ensure their legacy would live on. After Roberta’s death in 1985, her daughter, Miriam Freedman, continued administering the trusts. In 2013, after overseeing the family’s foundation for more than 30 years, Miriam transferred the Kirschner Trusts to the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Today, the Kirschner Trusts continue to award grants to charitable organizations that support causes important to the family. Funding categories include:
- Jewish Education, Culture & Heritage
- Educational & Vocational Opportunities for Children & Young Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)
- Eastern Oklahoma Nonprofits (preference for Muskogee-based organizations)
Deadline to apply is TOMORROW, October 27, 2023.
For more information, and to learn more about the Grants up to $50,000.00 please see the Kirschner Trusts - Grants & Guidelines

The IRIS Center now has secondary versions for two of its most popular modules.
-
Addressing Challenging Behaviors (Part 1, Secondary): Understanding the Acting-Out Cycle discusses challenging behavior in terms of the seven phases of the acting-out cycle and offers strategies and tips for responding to students in each phase. The module contains 24 classroom videos, play-by-play analyses by behavioral experts, and interactive practice opportunities.
-
Addressing Challenging Behaviors (Part 2, Secondary): Behavioral Strategies describes six low-intensity strategies that can increase initial compliance to teacher requests and prevent or decrease challenging behaviors. The strategies include behavior-specific praise, pre-correction, active supervision, high-probability requests, and opportunities to respond. The module also explores differential reinforcement of alternative behavior for situations when low-intensity strategies are not sufficient to prevent or de-escalate a student’s challenging behavior. Each strategy page includes classroom video examples and non-examples, fundamental skill sheets, and implementation checklists.
Both modules include free PD certificates of completion, Kahoot games, and more.
