OSDE Teacher Certification Department is preparing to pay stipends to eligible National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) - certified teachers, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), and nationally certified school psychologists in January.
Speech pathologists, please make sure that a copy of your 2022 ASHA Certification is received by the Teacher Certification Department by December 30. In order to ensure that all SLPS appear on the list for payment, SLPs must submit a valid American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) card with an expiration date of December 31, 2022. Receipts will not be accepted. A copy of the ASHA card must include the six-digit Oklahoma teacher number and must be received by OSDE's Office of Teacher Certification by December 30, 2021.
Email copies to Bunny Farley or fax them to (405) 522-1520 in the Teacher Certification Department. Please do not send this information to the Special Education Services Division.
OSDE-SES is pleased to announce over the coming weeks we will be releasing topical guidance briefs in order to provide expanded and specific guidance over a wide range of topics. These guidance briefs will be released through the Tuesday listserv and will be housed long-term for your reference on the special education webpage under the Technical Assistance button for Guidance Brief also on the corresponding topical page, if any.
If your district employs educational interpreters, please verify that they are on the OSDE Educational Interpreter Registry. All interpreters in an educational setting are required to be on the registry and are required to obtain yearly CEUs.
We are also interested in providing Professional Development opportunities for teachers whose students participate in the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment. If your district is anticipating more than 1.0 percent of your testing population (Grades 3-8, and 11) will participate in the OAAP/DLM testing in the 2022 spring operational window, the survey: “2022 Justification for Exceeding 1.0 % in OAAP Participation” must be completed online by February 11, 2022. If your district is not expecting to exceed the cap, no action is required.
The survey is designed to be completed by someone at the administrative level with special education and state testing knowledge. It may be completed by either the District Testing Coordinator, Special Education Director, or someone in a similar position. A link to the survey, a PDF template version of the survey, and resources for completing the online survey are posted to Assessment or you can click on this link to be taken to the template and survey “2022 Justification for Exceeding 1.0 % Survey and Template.”

The Office of Assessments is excited to provide an opportunity for new DLM Test Administers to complete their training requirements through modules facilitated by OSDE. These trainings consist of four modules lasting 30-45 minutes each.

Instructionally embedded assessments are computer-delivered alternate assessments that are intended to integrate classroom instruction and assessment in a cycle throughout the year. The Instruction and Assessment Planner is used to create instructional plans and assign testlets for students. These assessments are only used during the instructionally embedded window. Project 615 application due date has been extended from December 1 to December 31, 2021. Districts not submitting an application by the extended due date will forfeit their allocation. Should any district need assistance, contact your finance specialist.
OSDE sponsored events, professional development, and conferences are beneficial to special education teachers and staff. Additionally, Project 613 does not have a deadline to submit an application. Districts can submit an application at any time.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education Special Education Services Division and the Office of School Safety and Security are offering Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training for small and rural school districts across the state. Districts may register up to 4 staff members to participate in the 2-day training. All participants must attend both days of the training session.
The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program is a safe and effective behavior management system designed to help educators provide the best Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security for students in distress. This training is designed to equip school staff members with tools to use in crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques and physical interventions. Locations may vary.

In accordance with the Seizure-Safe Schools Act, each school district must have at least one school employee at each school who has met Seizure-Safe training requirements beginning Jan. 1.

As the 2021-22 school year begins, a reminder of the special education paraprofessional requirements are:
- OSDE special education paraprofessional training through Pepper, career technology centers, or other state-approved training providers,
- Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid, maintaining current certification.
- Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens yearly training, and
- Six hours of professional development each year.
If you are looking to enroll your paras into the OK Paraprofessional courses through Pepper, the first step is to ensure they have an account with Pepper. Please reach out to PCG-Pepper Support for access. The PCG-Pepper Support Staff will respond within 24 hours regarding the process for setup. Paraprofessionals typically do not have access to OK EdPlan, they must be setup directly within Pepper.
