Free Summer Access to Supplemental Math Programming for all 5th- & 8th-Grade Students

Imagine Math, a comprehensive, supplemental, skills-based online math program, is extending free summer access to all fifth- and eighth-grade students through July 31. All sixth- and seventh-grade students currently enrolled in Imagine Math may also access the program free of charge through July 31. Note: Imagine Math features a summer bridge pathway to help prepare students for fall, grade-level instruction.

Fifth- and eighth-grade students not currently using Imagine Math may still enroll in the program. To sign up for access, complete this Imagine Math sign-up form.

Data from Oklahoma schools using Imagine Math during the 2020-21 school year show students have raised their quantile scores 2.9 points. This trajectory translates into 1.8 years of academic growth. See Imagine Math in action.

Register for a free Imagine Math webinar. The webinar features an Imagine Math Curriculum expert and the Oklahoma Imagine Math Team as they walk through features of the program and share outcomes experienced by Oklahoma students.

The Imagine Math curriculum works with classroom teachers to tailor online instruction to the needs of individual students. Students can also access live 1:1 support from certified math teachers in English and Spanish after school hours. Imagine Math is fully aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Mathematics, including authentic assessments, adaptive learning pathways, embedded scaffolds and actionable data.

REMINDER: Time-Sensitive Correction of SY 2020 Graduation Data

OSDE has taken steps to reduce the number of graduation-related reports that require annual completion by districts. However, this change has resulted in some SY 2020 students having blank exit codes, which results in these students presently displaying as non-graduates for SY 2020 in the Enrollment Graduation table on the Accountability Reporting application.

Recognizing this, the Office of Accountability is opening a new, one-time process to remedy these blank exit codes: The EZ Grad Entry window. This window will allow sites to:

  • Review SY 2020 enrollment graduation records with no exit code;
  • Update the exit date and code using the new EZ Entry feature; and
  • Confirm updates have been made to the Enrollment Graduation table after 24 hours.

Records that are NOT updated during this EZ Grad Entry window will require creating a Data Verification Request (DVR) AND uploading supporting documentation for each individual student during a later data reporting window.

To support schools during this one-time window, the Office of Accountability has created a concise, step-by-step document: The EZ Grad Entry Toolkit. During this window, school and district users will be able to update the exit code and exit date for each student who presently displays blank values. OSDE staff will update these records in advance of the 2020 Graduation Audit Window, which will open later in April.

The EZ Grad Entry window is open through April 19.

Thank you for your prompt attention to reconciling these student data records.

If you have questions, email accountability@sde.ok.gov.

CARES Act Hotspot Grant Updates

CARES Hotspot Devices Retention

Devices purchased by the CARES Act Hotspot Grant do NOT need to be returned to OSDE. Each district may continue service on all or some of the devices, and devices may be shared with other students, teachers, staff or other districts in need. The OSDE is no longer facilitating device transfers between districts.

Verizon Service Cancellations

As the six-month, grant-required service commitments come to a close, districts wanting to cancel service on any hotspots and prevent future billing may email a list of phone numbers associated with the hotspots to govermentaccountsupport@verizonwireless.com.

Please also copy ryan.graham@verizonwireless.com and shelly.perkins@sde.ok.gov on the email and state you wish to CANCEL service for the numbers provided. Save the reference number Verizon sends as confirmation.

Important Device Notice from Verizon

In recent weeks, Verizon has been made aware that a very small number of Verizon Ellipsis Jetpack MHS900L and MHS900LS devices used for distance learning have significantly overheated and caused heat-related damage. Verizon is taking the situation very seriously and is working with the device manufacturer to investigate the cause of these incidents.

While these incidents represent a very small percentage - less than .001% - of the total number of devices in use, Verizon is offering an exchange of any Verizon Ellipsis Jetpack MHS900L and MHS900LS devices in service with a Verizon Orbic Speed mobile hotspot free of charge.

During the exchange process, schools and/or districts can work directly with Verizon or parents can call (800) 540-4263 to exchange the devices.

Please share the best practices listed below with students and parents along with how they may exchange their device.

To help promote the safe operation of all devices, the manufacturer suggests the following best practices:

  • Use only approved charging cables, including the cable provided.
  • Unplug your device once it’s fully charged. Devices should not be left plugged in continuously.
  • When not in use, power down your device.
  • Place your device on a flat, solid and sturdy surface such as a floor or table.
  • Ensure your device is not covered for proper ventilation.
  • Keep devices near room temperature when in use.
  • Do not expose the units to extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Do not expose the unit or its battery to water or other liquids.
  • Do not drop the units and do not insert foreign objects into the battery or unit.

Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

During the last support call, information was requested regarding Verizon's participation in the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) Program, which will help subsidize technology for families. This federal government subsidy includes a $100 discount on the purchase of a tablet or computer per qualifying household and discounted high-speed internet for low-income households.

Verizon DOES intend to participate in the EBB program for both home (where available) and mobile service and is working closely with the FCC to be ready when the program launches later this month.

If you have questions regarding the CARES Act Hotspot Grant, contact Shelly Perkins at shelly.perkins@sde.ok.gov.
