 The Amity Weekly Minute:
April 26, 2020
What's New?
From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Family,
We were sad to hear that we would not be returning back together to finish this school year in person. We love our students, and wish that we had gotten the opportunity to tell them how proud we are of their growth this year, and that we will miss them this summer. We know we will do this digitally, but it's not the same as seeing them in person.
While it was a disappointment to hear this news, we are prepared to still challenge students through distance learning and have little year-end fun. Our teachers have been preparing final round packets this week. This work packet will cover May 11th-May 21st.
With this final work packet you will see an Amity Work Log for the week of May 11th-May 15th, with a turn in date of Monday May 18th. For the final week of school, we will be celebrating the end of the school year just like we always do! Our teachers have developed a spirit week that ties to a variety of fun academic tasks to challenge our students minds and hopefully make them smile!
We are taking the same safety precautions of letting our packets set for four days prior to having them mailed out. We will be mailing them at the end of this week so please be on the lookout for them!
Thank you for all help and patience throughout our distance learning adventure.
Take Care, Josh
Amity Online Book Fair
We were scheduled to have a book fair this Spring at Amity Elementary. With everything that has happened over the last month, it became obvious that we wouldn’t be able to do a traditional book fair.
Luckily, Scholastic has offered to do an online book fair which allows the books to be purchased digitally and sent directly to your house. Scholastic donates a portion of the proceeds to our Amity Library to purchase new books. The book fair will run from April 27th-May 10th. Please support our Amity Library by purchasing books!
Here is the link to the online book fair:
Lifetouch Spring Pictures and Class Pictures Information
If you purchased spring pictures from Lifetouch, and there was a problem with the photo, please contact them directly at 513-772-2110.
We received confirmation from our Lifetouch representative that they are printing class pictures for each student and working to mail those directly to each student. Those pictures will be coming in the upcoming weeks.

From Mrs. McKnight, Our Amity Counselor
Hi Amity families!
I know as this situation continues, we are seeing more children with anxiety. Today, I have a few resources for you. The first one is from Mindpeace Cincinnati. They have created virtual rooms for calming spaces for children ages K-12. Please check them out HERE.
I have also included a document with information on anxiety in children. You can find that information HERE.
Take care and stay well, Amy McKnight Amity School Counselor

STEAM Night and Fine Arts Night Cancelled
It is unfortunate that we have to announce that STEAM Night and Fine Arts night will be cancelled due the COVID19 pandemic. We know this is disappointing to students, parents, and staff as they are fun nights celebrating our students’ talents. We look forward to having these events next year!
Virtual Field Day
Mrs. Fowler is excited to announce that Amity Elementary will be participating in the OPEN National Field Day event on Friday, May 8. Mrs. Fowler has composed a letter including all of the details for the event. You can read up on everything that will happen on the day of the event by clicking the link below!
Amity Messages from Teachers
Many Amity teachers have recorded messages for students over the last week. We have published the first two on our YouTube channel. You can check out those videos at the links below. We'll have more messages coming over the next week!
Digital Instructions for uploading work
We will be digitally submitting work from the first and second rounds of packets. Instructions on how to do that will be included in the packets, but we have included digital copies of the instructions in the links below.
Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Information Page
A page on the Deer Park website has been created which is dedicated to bringing you the most up-to-date information on all things affecting Deer Park Schools. It includes several quick links to local, state, and national health organizations, along with a frequently asked questions section. Please visit the page to stay up to date with all COVID-19 information.
Wifi at Amity
Amity Elementary’s wifi internet is available to students that need access to the internet. Students will need to have the school’s Chromebook to access this internet, as it will connect automatically when the Chromebook comes within the wifi range. Please feel free to drive up to Amity and sit in the parking lot, or your student can walk up and sit close to the building. Please remind your student that they need to maintain six feet from other students who take up this option.
Providers Offering Free Internet for Students

The WiFi access will be available for 60 days to households with students from kindergarten to college who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps.
