Administrative Rules Get New Numbers, Transfer to DCY

Because numerous child-focused programs and initiatives transferred from other state agencies to DCY, the administrative rules governing them must transfer as well. This transfer includes renumbering those rules in the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC). Please read this Guidance Letter from the Division of Policy for more information.

Please join the Governor’s Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force in person at the Ohio Department of Transportation for an important training on responding to human trafficking through our child protection system. This training is intended for public children services agencies and other child-serving professionals, anti-trafficking coalitions, and victim services providers. Register here.

Children Services Update Call Showcased Multiple Programs

DCY held its second Children Services Updates call on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, providing information and updates on the following topics:

Ohio ASAP (Accelerated Safety Analysis Protocol) and Mindshare
Parent and Youth Ambassadors
Children Services Training and Development
Children and Youth Behavioral and Mental Health Telehealth

The purpose of these calls is to share vital and relevant information on children services policies, programs, and best practices. They are geared toward supervisors and caseworkers of public children services agencies and Title IV-E courts, but directors and administrators are also welcome to attend.

The slides and notes from December’s call will be emailed soon to agency directors and administrators. The next call is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2025. A reminder for the February call, along with the attendance link, will go out by February 11. Watch Tuesday Times for updates.

Stronger Together Series Continues January 13

Join team members from the Department of Children and Youth and the Department of Medicaid for the second webinar in the Stronger Together series, titled Medicaid: Children, Youth, and Managed Care. This presentation will review Medicaid and the
role of Managed Care Plans – including application process, services, and how

OCALI Brings Back Popular Training Series

OCALI is excited to bring back Interoception: Feeling the Feels with Kelly Mahler, OTD, OTR-L, January 2025-February 2025, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. This training series is designed to introduce school teams to the concept of Interoception, the eighth sensory system. Attendees will learn how interoception can affect a student’s ability to understand body signals and feelings, self-regulate, and connect with their peers. The fee is $100 per person for the eight-session series. There will be no separate registration for individual sessions and space is limited to the first 150 participants. Reserve your spot! *Registration deadline extended to January 3, 2025*.

Family Support Specialists Help Parents on Early Intervention Journey

The Center for the Young Child is excited to announce to launch the new Family Support Specialists program in partnership with Ohio Early Intervention. This program is designed to support parents of young children beginning their early intervention journey.

Family Support Specialists are parents with lived experience that can provide families with information and resources so they can better support their child with a developmental delay or suspected delay.

94% of Family and Children First Councils Using OASCIS for Data Collection

The Ohio Automated Service Coordination Information System (OASCIS) is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system that captures information on families seeking and receiving services from county Family and Children First Councils (FCFCs). In late 2021, Ohio Family and Children First (OFCF) partnered with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) Office of Information Service (OIS) to develop a CRM– now OASCIS -- which went live in June 2022.

Information captured in OASCIS is outlined in ORC 121.376 and includes demographic and other child and family specific data, along with individualized plans and documents necessary for service coordination and other FCFC services. The Ohio Family and Children First (OFCF) office is pleased to report that 83 of the 88 (94%) FCFCs are using OASCIS for service coordination/wraparound data, while the remaining five FCFCs are capturing the same data within their own purchased systems.

OASCIS helps with consistent data collection across the state and reporting documents, benefiting children and families served by our collective efforts and ability to begin to measure outcomes. OASCIS also helps OFCF and our FCFCs tell a more impactful story of the work that is occurring within FCFCs and their communities. Data reports and statistics from OASCIS are shared with OFCF’s state and local partners to help give more insight on the multi-system youth we collaboratively serve within our communities.
