From the Office of Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini
Dear neighbors,
As we celebrate the arrival of July, I extend warm wishes to everyone for a happy and safe Independence Day. This historic holiday marks the birth of our nation, a time when our forebears boldly declared their independence and embarked on a journey towards freedom and self-governance. It's a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by patriots such as Brigadier General Jacobus Swartwout, a courageous Wappinger resident who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with George Washington leading our own Dutchess County soldiers during our fight for freedom. Their bravery reminds us of the pivotal role our town and region played in shaping our nation's history. As you enjoy this time with your family and friends whether it's over a barbeque or by a pool, I hope you have a very fun and safe day celebrating America!
This past week our Town was hit hard by a significant thunderstorm that rocked the southeastern area of Wappinger. I thank our own Highway Department personnel and Central Hudson crews for their swift action in the aftermath of the storm.
Our Summer Camp programs are in full swing, providing enriching experiences for our youth, and our ongoing efforts to enhance our parks ensure that families of all ages can enjoy our beautiful outdoor spaces are full speed ahead. Looking forward, I'm excited to announce the kickoff of our Wappinger Town Summer Concerts in the Park series at Brexel-Schlathaus Park next week. Be sure to join us here, Mesier Park, and at the many local businesses offering incredible line ups this season for evenings filled with music, dancing, and community spirit—it's sure to be a highlight of the year!
In collaboration with our Town Board, we've taken significant steps forward, including the submission of applications for two multi-million-dollar grants aimed at securing vital funding from the State of New York. These funds are crucial for the reconstruction of our Mid-Point Park Sewer Treatment facilities. Kicking the can down the road will not be the philosophy of this Town Board as we are dedicated to ensuring that we are making every effort to improve our infrastructure and foster safer well-being.
Furthermore, in following one of our most important goals from when I first took office in January, we are continuing to make great strides in protecting your quality of life. Your Town Board has been diligently working to safeguard our town's character and livability by proposing updates to our Town Code to combat overdevelopment and harmful projects while fostering innovative development in the appropriate places. This is crucial to ensuring that we do not contribute to traffic, crowd our schools, and overburden our police, ambulance, or volunteer fire companies.
As we navigate the summer months together, let's continue to cherish what makes our community special and our collective commitment to progress. I look forward to meeting you out at our upcoming events and working hand-in-hand to make our town an even better place to live, work, and play.
See you around Town, Joseph D. Cavaccini, Town Supervisor
