East Mountain Open Spaces Reopened
Current burn restrictions to remain in place
Recent rain showers have helped ease the dry conditions in all areas of Bernalillo County, including the East Mountains, and is allowing the county to reopen all open space areas. The only exception is Carlito Springs which remains closed due to renovations.
The burn ban enacted by the County Commission in May on open burning and fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the county, outside the city limits of Albuquerque remains in effect. Open burning is any fire that is not in a contained space such as a campfire or piled brush. The fireworks ban restricts the sale and use of aerial fireworks.
East Mountain open space properties reopened to the public:
- Carlito Springs (remains closed for renovations)
- Ojito de San Antonio, 30 San Antonio Dr, Cedar Crest, 87008
- Sabino Canyon, 34 Forest Rd 252 Tijeras, 87059
- Sandia Knolls, 35 Canyon Rd, Sandia Park, 87047
- Sedillo Ridge (remains closed), 193 Brannan Rd, Tijeras, 87059
- Tijeras Creek, 5 Public School Rd, Tijeras, 87059
All other county facilities, such as parks and walking areas, are open to public use.

RECYCLING TIP: Caps on or off? It’s your choice when you recycle a plastic bottle. Either way is acceptable. However, never recycle just the plastic cap. Bottle caps alone are too small to recover during the sorting process. And remember to pour out any liquids before putting the bottle in the recycling bin.
