Do you use a Cycle Menu?
If so, please make sure that you send them to our office (dpicnfd@nd.gov) for us to approve them for you.
If not, please consider using a cycle menu. Some benefits include:
- Ease of ordering (You know what is coming up to know what to purchase)
- Save prep time (You can get a good routine down for how to most efficiently prepare your food items. You may also decide to make a double batch and freeze half for later; such as taco meat)
- Approval of menu from DPI, to ensure your menu meets requirements
- Kid familiarity with menu items
- Cost savings, as your inventory will continue to be used
- Reduce waste, as you get to know how much you go through each time you serve the menu item
If you have questions as you create your cycle menu, feel free to reach out to us.

Each year the Fiscal Office at North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) sends out a Single Audit Survey. Each Sponsor must fill this out. If you see this come through your emails, please fill this document out and return promptly. This should be coming from Jamie Mertz.
It is a simple document, where you need to indicate your entity, what level of federal funds you expend, what are your federal fund sources, and what your entities fiscal year is.
If you have questions regarding the document, please reach out to our office or the person that sends the email to you. Thanks!
The North Dakota Department of Health is here to assist workplaces across North Dakota with creating a private, comfortable space and achieve the Infant Friendly Workplace Designation.
Starting October 1st, North Dakota Department of Health will again offer a $500 grant to workplaces creating a space to offer employees (feeding their child directly or pumping) a space to express breast milk during the workday as well as creating a policy specific to employees. Check back to the website below after October 1st for more information on the Grant Opportunity and how to achieve the Infant Friendly Workplace Designation:

*bonus - this space could offer an extra benefit as this could create a space for mom's to come over their lunch break to nurse their child!
Amongst many things September holds, like cool mornings, warm evenings, the start of changing colors, many 'national' food days, it is also National Whole Grains Month! Whole Grains are an important aspect in the CACFP, as you are required to have at least one Whole Grain Rich food item served per day, with the remaining grains you serve be at least enriched. We see many centers offering more than one whole grain rich item each day. Whole grains promote digestive and heart health as well as many micronutrients to support overall health and benefits to kiddos growing bodies.
Check out a few USDA resources to help you identify whole grain rich items:
