Below is the Pricing Memo and PLE Tool for SY 2022-23. If you are a Provision 2 or CEP district, you’re lucky, just ignore this. Everyone else can use it as a reason to increase prices (with gas prices and increased food costs, we highly encourage you to do so!). If you need help or you are still on the fence about increasing prices, please call or write.

On May 5th, 2022, the Food and Nutrition Service’s (FNS) Civil Rights Division issued a memo updating the Non-Discrimination statement (NDS) and the And Justice for All (AJFA) posters to include gender identity and sexual orientation and spells out what a complaint letter must contain. The new NDS is listed in the link below.
The revised USDA NDS includes updated language for all other FNS programs. New And Justice for All posters are in the printing phase and will be distributed once the State Agency receives its orders.
All documents, pamphlets, websites, etc. should be updated with the 2022 NDS as follows:
|
- You must update your school website where meal program information is posted within 90 days of the date of this memorandum (August 3rd is 90 days).
- Documents, pamphlets, brochures, etc., using 2019 NDS language must be updated when the current supply on hand is exhausted or by September 30th, 2023.
- All new printing must use the 2022 NDS.
And Justice for All Posters
Until the new posters are received, all current posters dated September 2019 must stay in place until replaced with the new posters. Reminder: If the poster is taken down to deep clean the cafeteria this summer, please keep the poster in a safe place and return it to the wall in the fall. We have a limited number of posters for replacement.
As the school year ends, a flurry of questions came into the office. You may have had a similar question so here is a recap:
- Leftovers at the end of the year. Page 20 in the front of your Lunch Production book addresses leftovers. Here is the link to Page 20: b7c0a863-bfe6-475d-9c51-256921c72d2a.docx (live.com)
- Food in the freezers. Check temps at least every 3 days during the summer. Possibly make a deal with the maintenance staff if they will be doing your preventive maintenance over the summer. Here is a link to the temp log: 91c739f8-8a81-4f32-82c9-ef5a74d1ca2a.docx (live.com)
- New Foodservice Director or Kitchen Manager. If you are hiring a new Food Service Director or Kitchen Manager, please remember that a Food Safety and Sanitation certification is required for both the Food Service director and anyone that is managing a kitchen. (They may wear both hats so only one certification is required.) If the person is hired without the certification, the federal rule states it must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Please send a copy of the certification to the Child Nutrition office as this data is recorded in ND Foods.
If certification is needed, we will be holding an in-person “Food Safety in Schools” class on July 19th.

New Kitchen Manager Training
Running a school nutrition program requires much more than cooking food. This class is designed to teach new kitchen managers the details for meeting meal pattern requirements with menus, collecting the documentation for claiming meals as reimbursable and the knowing the other general requirements of the federal school meal programs. Coursework will be covered in the morning. Individual help such as reviewing next year’s menus and making sure production records are filled out correctly will be available in the afternoon if anyone is interested. |

Food Safety in Schools Sanitation Certification, In-person class from ICN
This is the INITIAL class. Those needing a 3 hour update can participate in Pre-conference at NDSNA, do the online A.B.C’s of Sanitation: NDDPI Kitchen Counter Conversations August - YouTube or wait for another opportunity in the fall.
All school kitchen managers are required to complete a Food safety and sanitation certification. Documentation of the certification is maintained in ND Foods. An update of at least 3 hours every 5 years is required to maintain the certification. At this time, the ND Dept of Health recognizes the ICN certification “Food Safety in Schools” as compliance for this requirement. |
