The North Carolina Arts Council has announced $11.5 million in grants to be distributed across all 100 counties in the state to benefit schools, after-school programs, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and artists during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
“The arts benefit North Carolinians of all ages,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a press release. “These grants will enrich our communities as well as grow their economies throughout all one hundred counties.”
The grant money is divided into 366 awards, ranging from $5,000 to $338,000. The full list of grant recipients, which includes several school districts and one community college, can be found here.
The Burroughs Wellcome Fund’sCareer Award for STEM Teachers grants a STEM educator $175,000 over a period of five years for professional development, school-wide STEM projects, and more. The application will close on Sept. 30, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
Candidates must be currently licensed North Carolina public school STEM teachers who teach in grades K-12 in North Carolina public schools.
Candidates must have completed at least five years of teaching experience with three of those years in North Carolina K-12 public schools at the time of application.
Candidates in middle school and high school must hold licensure to teach STEM in North Carolina and spend at least 70% of their time devoted to teaching STEM courses. Teaching professionals certified in Career and Technical Education may be eligible and should contact BWF prior to applying.
Candidates in elementary schools, who also can be STEM specialists, must spend at least 30% of their time teaching STEM. At least 20% of their time should be spent working with other teachers if they are specialists.
Candidates must have superior knowledge of STEM, excellent teaching skills, demonstrated leadership, and a commitment to continue teaching in the North Carolina Public school system.
Candidates must be citizens of the United States or have Permanent United States Residency.
