Greetings!
You may recall that Superintendent Truitt sent an email regarding ESSER Strategic Spending in February. As of April 30th, 2023, North Carolina PSUs have expended nearly 87% of ESSER II Supplemental Emergency Relief Funds**. We greatly appreciate PSU’s efforts to expend these funds efficiently so that this money stays in North Carolina to support North Carolina students.
While PSUs have done a great job in spending the ESSER II Supplemental Emergency Relief Funds, we still have about half of the funds remaining for our two ESSER II summer programs. PRC 176, Summer Bridge Programs, has 50% of funds unexpended while PRC 177, Summer Career Accelerators, has 51% of funds unexpended.
We understand that there have been roadblocks to spending these funds and that many are outside your control. We have also received further inquiries regarding intentional ESSER II reversion, specifically for PRCs districts are having a hard time utilizing, like PRC 177.
In an effort to support PSUs who are still facing challenges with spending these funds, NCDPI has created a process to allow for PSUs to voluntarily revert their funds to NCDPI if they do not think they will be able to effectively spend the remaining funds before the September 30, 2023 ESSER II deadline.
Please follow the ESSER II Voluntary Reversion Process if you will be unable to spend your remaining ESSER II PRC funds. A fillable ‘Notice of Funds Reversal’ Letter is attached to this email to facilitate this process for you. All requests are due by June 20th, 2023.
If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to OLR Director, Rachel Wright Junio, at Rachel.wrightjunio@dpi.nc.gov.
Thank you for all that you do for North Carolina’s Public School students.
